The Year of the Sheep (Goat) is leaving. The Year of the Monkey is coming. You can believe it or not believe it. But hardly anyone doesn’t like diversity in celebrating the most joyful holiday - the New Year. The word “new” always contains hope for the appearance of what we really want.
I am a long-time collector of household omens. Or a collector. I have a book (in paper version) "Signs - Hints from the Future."
Someone collects posters, matchboxes, clowns, teapots... And I collect household signs and bells. But I’m just mentioning the bells here. Yes, I know that not everyone believes in the peculiar prediction of everyday signs (a knife fell on the floor, a guitar string broke, clothes turned inside out...) and, having heard that someone believes, they can twirl their finger at their temple.
No one forces you to believe in omens. But they don't need it. They simply exist and manifest themselves in different ways.
One could talk about some quirks of Russians who believe in everyday omens. But the whole world is “infected” with this. Books are being published on this topic. When you begin to delve into this phenomenon and collect stories about how in different countries, with different people, regardless of gender, education, profession and social status, the prediction of omens comes true, you involuntarily think that omens are serious.
I will repeat what is in my mentioned book and what I wrote about before.
Alexander Gorbovsky in his book “Sorcerers, Healers, Prophets” (Moscow, Mysl Publishing House, 1993) makes an attempt to reveal the language of omens and secret signs:
“If we imagine that an information flow from the future actually penetrates into the time preceding it and is present in it, then we can expect that in some indirect way, indirectly, it should manifest itself. And therefore, through these manifestations it can be perceived.
There is an idea that has existed since ancient times that information from the future, present in the present, can reveal itself through violations of the random distribution of some phenomena. Folk signs and fortune-telling techniques are based precisely on this principle.
Such a violation of the series is deciphered as an omen, that is, as coming from the future and present in the present, not even a sign, but rather a hieroglyph of an event. At the same time, it is not at all necessary that there be any visible, logical connection between the scale and level of the future event and the scale and area in which such a sign may appear.
In Ancient Rome, for example, they tried to read signs of future events and political changes in a lightning strike, in the invasion of wolves into a city or mice into a temple, in the sudden appearance of a comet, in the flight of birds...
However, it is not necessary to wait for this or that sign to appear, which you still need to notice and be able to decipher its hidden meaning. The arrival of such a sign can be artificially caused. This is what fortune telling is for."
There are many extravagant (there is no other way to call them) everyday signs. For example, astronauts, athletes... The famous figure skater Irina Rodnina said not so long ago: “When I was preparing for competitions, I always... washed my laces.” Good luck!
WHAT DOES THE COMING YEAR PROMISE?
So, the Year of the Monkey is coming. Let's not forget that monkeys are called anthropoid primates. There are only about 150 species. Size: from 15 cm (marmosets) to 2 meters (gorillas). The weight of a male gorilla can reach up to 250 kg. Surprisingly, these giants are herbivores.
What to put on the holiday table? A strong opinion (but not among scientists who study monkeys as a scientific object) is that monkeys are vegetarians and eat bananas, berries and all sorts of herbs. Experts note that some of them love peaches.
But there are exceptions. The menu of monkeys depends on the conditions in which they live and on the type of primate. They can get bananas - they eat bananas and other fruits. They caught small animals, grasshoppers - they eat them. For example, baboons (hamadryas, baboon, drill, mandrill...) are omnivores. In wild forests, monkeys find edible leaves and roots. And in some places, when organizing raids on cities, they eat whatever they catch.
And yet, there should be more dishes made from vegetables and fruits on the holiday table. And the masterpiece of the New Year's dish - the Olivier salad may be present, but without meat or sausage. Just in case. There is also fish, cheese, cabbage pies.
