How and with what to wear trousers with stripes: fashion tips. Latin pants How to sew sweatpants with stripes

Probably, each of us has something in our wardrobe that we just can’t part with. Even if it has lost its original appearance, or has become hopelessly small or large for you, it can take up space in your closet for years. Getting rid of this thing is usually prevented by pleasant memories, for example, how stunning you looked in it.

Very often, this fate awaits your favorite jeans. Finding jeans that will favorably emphasize the strengths of your figure and hide its flaws is a great success that happens quite rarely.

If your jeans, which recently fit perfectly, suddenly no longer fasten on you, you can try to increase them by a size or two using methods tested by many generations of fashionistas. Read about how to stretch jeans at home in our article today.

What are the most common places for jeans to shrink?

First reason– This is shrinkage after washing.

The second reason sadder – sudden weight gain. If the numbers on the scale remain the same, but your favorite pants fit very tightly, most likely they shrank after you washed them incorrectly.

Jeans shrink in a variety of areas. Products made from low-quality material, with a large percentage of synthetic fibers, may “shrink” not in individual places, but completely, either in length or width. Better quality pants shrink only in patches. Most often - on the belt, which is why it can be difficult for us to fasten our jeans after washing.

Another possible problem area is the pant legs. Tight-fitting jeans such as skinny or slim fit, which contain stretch, are most susceptible to this. Therefore, when buying tight trousers, be prepared for the fact that after washing they may become a little short for you.

Proven methods

There are several available ways to stretch jeans at home. We have compiled a selection of the simplest and most effective methods for you. Before using any of them, first experiment on an inconspicuous area of the fabric, since the reaction of the material to such measures cannot be predicted.

Stretch while doing exercises

Denim- This is a cotton fabric that is not very elastic. However, to make jeans fit better, manufacturers have long learned to add various synthetic fibers to denim, which can stretch and contract under the influence of various factors.
These elastic additives are usually to blame for jeans shrinking in size.

The fabric can be stretched mechanically. It will be most effective to do this directly on yourself. Therefore, we pull on our jeans and start exercising.

We work with our legs: we squat, do swings, do the splits, do a bicycle in the air, in general, we remember all the leg exercises from school physical education lessons.

At first, the shrunken fabric will restrict movement, but soon you will feel freer. Continue until you feel as comfortable in your jeans as before.

Taking a bath with jeans

The fibers will stretch better and retain their shape longer if they are pre-wetted. It is also better to soak jeans on yourself.

  • For this procedure, you need to choose a day when the apartment is warm and you are not worried about colds or other inflammatory diseases, otherwise the consequences of such an experiment will be disastrous.
  • So, take a full bath of water (the water temperature should be comfortable for the body, but not too warm).
  • Then we pull on our jeans and take a dip in the bath. You need to sit there for 10-15 minutes so that the denim gets thoroughly wet.
  • After leaving the bath, we begin physical exercises - we do everything the same as in the previous method.

Interestingly, using the same method you can not only increase the size of jeans, but also reduce them.

We use an expander

In dry cleaners, clothing repair shops and sewing studios, a special device is used to stretch trousers in the waist area. In the original it is called waistband extender, but people simply call it “extender”.

You can buy such a device from one of the companies that sells equipment for the above-mentioned organizations.

Using a trouser expander is very easy, you can easily master this device:

  • First, the fabric on the jeans waistband needs to be slightly moistened with a spray bottle.
  • Then fasten your pants with all the fasteners, take the expander and insert it inside the waistband.
  • Start gradually stretching the device until the mark stops at the desired value (when starting the process, you need to take your measurements so that you know how wide to stretch your jeans).
  • Now, without removing the expander, leave the pants until the fabric is completely dry - this usually takes several hours.

Ironing and steaming

Another good way to stretch denim is by exposing it to hot, humid air. The source of such air can be an iron or a clothes steamer. This method is especially convenient if you need to stretch your jeans in one place, for example at the waistband or at the bottom of the legs.

The shriveled area should be treated with steam for several minutes. Gradually, the fibers will begin to straighten and their former elasticity will return. While the pants are still soaked in warm steam, you need to quickly put them on - let them cool down on you. Walk around in jeans for an hour and a half so that the new shape has time to set.

We use a sewing machine

If none of the stretching methods described above helped, then the situation is more serious. The elasticity of the material cannot be restored, therefore, it is necessary to resort to drastic measures.
To do this, you will have to remember the skills in handling sewing supplies you learned in needlework lessons. You don't have to be an experienced seamstress, but you do need to have at least some knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine.

Reducing seam allowances

This method will only be effective if the jeans are just a little out of size. As a result, you will get an additional centimeter and a half of width, but no more.

In addition to the sewing machine you will need:

  • sewing ripper;
  • scissors;
  • chalk;
  • ruler;
  • needle with thread;
  • and a set of pins for stitching.

First, you need to turn the jeans inside out, then, using a seam ripper, carefully undo the side seams in those places where the trousers have become narrow for you. You may have to rip the entire length of the product - no big deal, it will just take a little more time. Now you need to mark the location of the new seams, baste, and then stitch on a sewing machine. This way you can increase your jeans by half a size.

Inserting stripes is an easy way to increase your jeans by 2 sizes!

The most radical, but also the most effective way to make jeans bigger is to insert stripes into the side seams of the product. At first glance, it may seem that this can only ruin the pants, but if you do everything carefully and choose the right material for the inserts, the result will be simply amazing.

The most important thing is to choose the right fabric for the stripes. It should not only go well with jeans in color, but also have the appropriate density. You will need little material; strips of fabric 50 cm wide are more than enough.

Next, you need to correctly calculate the width of the inserts. First, measure your waist and hips and determine how many centimeters you need to add to the width of your jeans to make them fit properly. Then divide the resulting number by two and add 2 cm for margin. Now you should cut out two flats of fabric of the required length and width and sew them into the pre-opened side seams of the jeans.

If your jeans have become smaller as a result of improper washing in length, and not in width, you can return lost centimeters using methods already familiar to us. Before you start stretching, it is recommended to wet your pants. To make the fabric more manageable, you can rinse the jeans in warm water with conditioner - it will soften the material and make it more elastic. After this, the trousers need to be wrung out, but not too much.

You can stretch jeans in different ways. For example, throw them over the horizontal bar, grab them with your hands and hang for as long as you can. Or stretch your pants on the floor, press them with your knees in the hip area and pull the legs up with all your might.

Adviсe

When choosing jeans, pay attention to the composition of the fabric from which they are made. The higher the cotton content, the lower the risk that the pants will lose their shape over time.

If the product contains more than 30% elastane or other synthetic material, there is a high probability that after a couple of washes such trousers will shrink or, conversely, stretch.

Any jeans can shrink: those purchased at a discount center or those purchased at an expensive boutique. Not only the quality of the product material, but also compliance with the rules of care plays a role here. It is best to wash jeans by hand or in the washing machine on a delicate cycle. Do not wash jeans in hot water or dry them in direct sunlight!

What we have: jeans that are waiting to lose weight. They've been waiting for many years. So much so that they have already gone out of fashion several times.

What we want: Turn completely unfashionable jeans into the most trendy denim of this summer. Jeans with patches, appliqués, and embroidery are now in fashion - this is a good reason to create something similar.

Choose a method: I need to do everything quickly, in a few hours. Fiddling with patterns and adjustments is not my thing. It seems to me that the idea should be simple and doable even for a beginner. So I decided to make stripes. This word, of course, sounds somehow school-like and Soviet; I immediately remember the white stripes sewn onto black sweatpants, which were mandatory for physical education classes in elementary school. But in fact, the idea is trendy: various stripes are in fashion - lace, jacquard, silk... There are a lot of ideas on the catwalks.

To work, I will need my pants, a piece of thick furniture fabric, threads to match my jeans and a sewing machine.

Step 1. Cut strips of fabric approximately 5 cm wide.

Step 2. I cut each pant leg lengthwise. Ideally, of course, cut out the seam. He's useless. But then you might lose the rivet on your pocket. So I choose to just make a cut right next to the seam, leaving 5-7mm for the new seam. When you cut, make sure you don't grab the pocket.

Step 3. This is what happens at this stage.

Step 4. I'm starting to sew on the stripes. I leave a stripe above the belt line. I do this in order to then imitate a belt. I don't use pins, I do it the old fashioned way. First I baste with contrasting threads, then I stitch it on a machine and remove the basting. I like this method better when I need to try on a thing while working.

Step 5. I baste the other side of the stripe to the pant leg. It is important that the stripe does not become deformed and then form an accordion. Therefore, make sure that everything is absolutely symmetrical.

Step 6. This is what you should get before sewing everything on the machine.

Step 7 Repeat steps 2 through 6 with the other pant leg.

Step 8 I'm stitching. I only need to make 4 stitches.

One of the trends that continues to be relevant in 2018 is again women's pants with stripes. Despite the fact that many bloggers consider them a controversial trend, they are firmly entrenched in the wardrobes of fashionistas. Which model to choose this year, what color and what to combine with, read on.

What do trousers with stripes look like?

Stripes are vertical stripes along the outside of the trouser legs. Initially they were present on military uniforms, then they appeared on sportswear (everyone knows Adidas sweatpants with three white stripes on the sides).

Modern models look completely different, because today stripes adorn both sports and suit trousers, and silk stripes are generally a distinctive feature of tuxedo trousers. There are also no restrictions on the width and color of the trim: stripes can be a thin edging along the seam or a wide strip, one color or several at once. Sometimes stripes differ not in color, but in the use of a different fabric (for example, lace or leather) or decor (for example, a vertical strip of rhinestones).

Who are they suitable for?

The advantage of trousers with stripes, the women's models of which are varied, is that beauties with any type of figure can wear them. Any style will suit girls with ideal shapes. Skinny trousers will look very impressive. For fuller hips, consider wide, structured styles with arrows.

Those who want to hide any flaws should approach the choice of clothing more carefully. It is worth remembering that stripes can visually lengthen your legs, especially if you complement the set with high-heeled shoes.

Wide, floor-length trousers will add height to a petite girl. Straight cut models can be considered universal, because they suit everyone.

Pants with side stripes

We're used to seeing stripes on sweatpants. However, today stripes have migrated from sportswear or uniforms to other models of women's trousers. Today you can even find classic models of trousers decorated with stripes.

For slender girls, tight-fitting trousers with stripes are suitable. And the trousers, made of soft cotton and complemented by an elastic waistband, are suitable even for women with a protruding tummy. Leather pants with stripes will attract the attention of others.

Jeans with stripes and other decorative elements will look very interesting.

Often stripes are made from a different fabric and sewn in or decorated with rhinestones. If you choose the right shoes and top for them, you can even wear these trousers to the theater. The main thing is that the top is elegant and in an evening style, as are the shoes.

When wearing pants with stripes, it is very important to remember that these are not sportswear.

Fashionable trousers with stripes can be of different lengths. They can be either long, ankle-length or mid-calf.

Some trouser styles may taper or widen from the knees. Stripes can also be located in different places. They are often located on the outside of the thigh, but sometimes there are stripes on the inside. Stripes can also be located on both sides of the leg.

Material

A real novelty for 2018 are leather trousers with stripes, which girls perceive as an item for everyday and evening wear. Most often, artificial materials are used, such as lycra. Knitted trousers with leather stripes will look very original. Unusual inserts put a huge emphasis on the length of the legs and do not attract much attention. But, if you want to make a lasting impression, feel free to choose leather trousers with stripes made of the same material or other options on a woven basis.

Unlike genuine leather, lycra fits tightly to the leg and is less resistant to deformation. In general, they try not to use natural materials to create everyday things, as this greatly increases the cost of the product. In general, natural leather is most often rough and is not suitable for creating tight-fitting models due to its high thermal insulation.

A very popular material used for sewing trousers with stripes is knitwear. Unlike all other options, this one is in very high demand. It is knitwear that is used with pleasure for various experiments. It allows you to create a variety of trouser models - from high-waisted products to loose-fitting trousers. Also, a big advantage of knitwear is its excellent ability to be dyed and maintain color fastness.

To create an evening look, stylish velvet trousers with stripes are suitable, which in 2018 occupy a high position in popularity. In this case, the product itself or inserts on the sides can be made of velvet. Some girls even use such models to create everyday looks. The fashion for velvet trousers came from the 90s, when such material was worth its weight in gold. This season, such models are fashionable again. Among the current products, stylists highlight dark blue and burgundy trousers with white or black stripes. Also, to create an evening look, you can choose a model with paitek on the sides.

Popular colors

As for color, the classic colors are still relevant - black, gray beige and white.

Black and white striped trousers or white and black trousers are one of the timeless hits of the season. The combination of gray and black or beige looks stylish. Stripes can be either in the form of solid strips of the same fabric, or original ones - for example, made of lace.

A contrasting combination of red and white, as well as almost any other bright colors, will brighten up 2018.

Silver and gold are in fashion now. Silver and gold trousers with stripes made in dark shades are perfect for a social event. Jeans with silver or gold stripes on the sides will also blend seamlessly into your wardrobe. Pay attention to the multi-colored stripes against a black or blue background. On such models, the stripes are sewn in two or three rows and can combine up to three colors.

What to wear with striped trousers

Pants with stripes are an insidious thing that can not only transform your look, but also ruin it. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the advice of stylists and select for this item of clothing only those clothes and shoes that fit harmoniously with it.

With heels

At first glance, it is necessary to combine clothes that came to us from sports exclusively with sports shoes, but the designers suggested wearing high heels under trousers with stripes. They look especially stylish with wide and long trousers, but heeled shoes will also look quite appropriate under Adidas sweatpants.

With sneakers

Undoubtedly, sneakers are exactly the shoes that should be worn with stripes. They are simply irreplaceable for urban and everyday looks. At the same time, the most impressive look is the combination of trousers with white sneakers, which balance the complex look.

Crop top or T-shirt

The top is such a universal thing that it can be worn with almost everything, especially with stripes. In looks with high-waisted models, the top should be a crop top in white or another light shade.

Sweater or sweatshirt

There are no restrictions in this combination. Choose sports or business models of stripes and combine them with chunky or thick knit sweaters, knitwear or angora options.

Jacket or sleeveless vest

An option for those fashionistas who have just begun their experiments with stripes. At first, it is so difficult to choose a harmonious top of the image, so the best thing you can choose from the whole variety of clothes is a jacket, cardigan or a classic plain vest. This is a win-win option that always looks elegant and very feminine.

Pajama style

A total look in pajama style is the trend of this season. In this outfit you will feel comfortable in any situation, as if you are still at home in a cozy and familiar environment. The pajama style is represented by a classic linen set with stripes in warm, soothing shades.

Sports classics

A set with stripes not only on the trousers, but also on the jacket looks like a classic version of a tracksuit. A striking representative of this style are suits from Adidas, the symbolism of which exactly corresponds to the spirit and mood of fashionistas.

Spectacular images

Raxi, here is my tutorial on velvet stripes, I also make satin ones, often without gluing the satin to the main fabric.

I am creating a pattern for the front and back halves of the trousers. I increase the front part along the side seam by ½ of the intended width of the stripe (let the width of the stripe = A), and reduce the back by ½ A. I cut out a strip of velvet with a width of A+3cm.

I retreat a distance (A-1cm) from the side seam markings towards the trouser leg on the front half of the trousers and on the front side I draw a line with a silver gel pen (it washes off well, is thin, and is perfectly visible on black).

From this line towards the trouser leg I glue a mesh on paper 1 cm wide:

I glue a strip of velvet:

I attach the velvet at a distance of exactly 1 cm:

I glue a mesh on paper width (A+1) to the velvet allowance and the allowance of the front half of the trousers, thus:

I unroll the velvet and iron it using a working piece of velvet (pile to pile):

On the wrong side of the front half, we once again measure the width of the stripe relative to the laid stitch, correcting errors, and draw a new line connecting the front and back halves of the trousers. Errors, as a rule, always appear:

We cut off the front and back halves of the trousers and stitch along the front half along the new line we just marked.

We iron the stripes using a working piece of velvet, smoothing the allowance onto the back half:

I also started making satin stripes; I really liked the required rigidity and plasticity of the stripes:

The description is long, but both stripes take 30-40 minutes. Instead of a mesh, I somehow just made a web on paper, but the stripes stood up like a stake, were too hard, and it was difficult to lay the web evenly. And the mesh stripes are plastic, keep their shape, but do not prick, and do not shrink after washing. And it turns out that I don’t use basting or pins at all, the velvet doesn’t move, which is very important when you need perfect accuracy in the width of the stripes.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRINTING PATTERNS AND SEWING SEQUENCE

Constructive additions: to the waist circumference - about 28 cm (the width along the waist line is approximately (Ob+1cm); to the hip circumference up to size 50 - 7.5 cm, from 52 to 58 - 9 cm, from 60 - 11 cm.

Material recommendations: main - mixed materials containing elastane fibers and threads (highly tensile), plain or with a “cage” pattern, stripe; finishing - knitted fabric or special knitted braid or base material with a check pattern, stripe when changing the direction of the warp thread (pattern) or plain.

When ordering a pattern you receive 3 pdf files:

  • A file with instructions for printing a pattern, containing a control square and the measurements according to which the pattern was constructed;
  • File with pattern in A4 format, for printing on a regular printer
  • File with a pattern on one large sheet - for printing on a plotter

Pattern sample:

* PRINTING ON A4 FORMAT PRINTER:

When printing patterns in A4 format, open Adobe Reader and check the "Actual size" checkbox (or uncheck "Fit to page size") in the print settings.

Note the test square (or grid) on the pattern sheet. Its size is exactly 10 by 10 cm. It is needed in order to understand whether the printing scale is set correctly on your printer. Before printing the entire pattern, print out a sheet with a red square and measure it. 10cm sides? This means you can print the remaining pattern sheets. If the sides are more or less than 10 cm, you need to adjust the print scale of your printer. Otherwise, the pattern will not print correctly.

After printing all the pattern pages, glue them together in the order shown: the letters (A/B/C+) indicate the column, and the numbers (01/02/03+) indicate the row. The first (top left) pattern sheet will have the number A01.

*PRINTING ON A PLOTTER:

When printing a pattern on a plotter, open the pattern file in Adobe Reader (or Foxit Reader). Click on the "File" menu item, then select "Print". Select the Poster print mode under Page Sizing and Handling. Make sure the Segment Scale field is set to 100%. Check the boxes for Cutting Marks, Labels, and Split Large Pages Only.

The following designations are used on the pattern:

Parts Specification

  1. Front part - 2 parts
  2. Rear part – 2 parts
  3. Facing the upper edge of the front part – 1 piece
  4. Facing the upper edge of the back part – 1 piece
  5. Lampas – 2 parts
  6. Pocket burlap – 4 pieces

When cutting, add allowances for all connecting seams - 1.0 cm. There is no need to give a seam allowance for the bottom edge of the trousers and the bottom edge of the facings, because these sections will be overcast.

Material consumption when laying out parts according to the diagrams indicated below depends on the size of the product, the width of the material, as well as the possibility of laying out parts in different directions, the need to adjust the “cage” pattern along the side sections of the trousers, etc. Average material consumption when cutting all parts in one direction for sizes 44/46 - 1.2 m, for sizes 48/54 - 1.3 m, for large sizes and heights material consumption is 1.8-2.0 m with the width of the material not less than 150 cm.

The consumption of material for cutting stripes depends on height. The figure shows the length of the part for heights 164-176. To save material, they can be cut in the transverse direction, if the location of the pattern suits you.

Options for laying out parts when cutting parts in one direction with adjustment of the pattern along the side sections

In addition to the main material for making trousers, you will need:

- wide elastic band “elastic band” – 1.5-2 m;

- finishing cord – 1.5 – 1.8 m.

Technological sequence for processing trousers

Baste and then stitch the pocket burlap pieces to the front of the trousers following the reference marks (Stitches 1 and 3, Fig. 1). Stitch the edges (Stitches 2 and 4, Fig. 1). Sew the seam allowances onto the burlap (Line 4, Fig. 1) and onto the front of the trousers (Line 5, Fig. 1).

Baste and then stitch the pocket burlap pieces to the trouser stripes following the reference marks. Seal the cuts. Topstitch the seam allowances onto the burlap.

Baste and then stitch the stripes to the front of the trousers while basting and stitching the pocket burlap parts. Seal the cuts.

Baste and then stitch the stripes to the back of the trousers (Stitch 9, Fig. 1). Stitch the cuts (Line 10, Fig. 1).

Rice. 1

Attention! The seam allowances for attaching stripes to the back of the trousers should be pressed back, and the seam allowances for attaching stripes to the front of the trousers should be pressed to the front. You can sew the seam allowances on the back and front parts respectively using a finishing stitch (Stitch 11, Fig. 1).

Baste and then stitch the trouser parts along the individual sections. Overcast seam allowances.

Baste and then stitch the right and left sides of the trousers along the middle edges. Overcast seam allowances.
