The history of sub zero. Sub-Zero Character biography. Biography and plot

Hello everyone who decided that going to the Mortal Kombat Trilogy blog is not a bad idea :)

This post will tell the story of a character from the game. Suddenly it's true?) Mostly information is taken from games and films of the MK series. The post is unfortunately not the author’s, but why reinvent the wheel? Especially in such a matter as someone’s biography. Plus, in parentheses, I wrote some comments on my own and corrected errors in the original.

We've all played MK, but what do we know about the characters we controlled? Some people will find it unnecessary to have such information. Well, please stay with your superficial knowledge! And answer the question “Who is Sub-Zero?” So: “Sub-Zero? Yes, this is such a ninja in blue from MK, he also throws ice...” For those who want to know more or who are simply interested, read below.

Race: Human

Origin: Earthrealm

Worldview: good

Status: Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei Clan

Weapon:ice scepter, Kori blade

Fighting styles: Shotokan, Dragon

Enemies: Scorpio, Quan Chi, Hotaru, Frost

Allies:Lord Ryden, Earth Defenders,

First appearance: Mortal Kombat II

There are two Sub-Zeros - the older and the younger. They are both warriors in blue suits who have the ability to generate and control the power of ice (cryokinesis). Junior has a noticeable scar on the right side of his face, however, starting with Mortal Kombat: Deception, his scar disappears. In MK:SM it is revealed that his scar was caused by a cut from Kung Lao's hat. The older Sub-Zero appeared in the first Mortal Kombat, after dying at the hands of Scorpion; his younger brother replaced him for the rest of the game. Subsequently, the older brother became a representative of Unreality under the name Noob Saibot.

(For those who have not understood all these brotherly bonds, I will try to convey the essence: Elder Sub-Zero is the future Noob Saibot. There is no Younger Sub-Zero in MK1!)

Sub-Zero (the future Noob Saibot) goes to the Shaolin tournament called Mortal Kombat. The main goal of the warrior of the ancient clan of assassins, the Lin Kuei, was to kill the host of the tournament, Shang Tsung, but his mission was never completed. He meets his old enemy - Scorpio, who fell at his hands several years ago. Having waited for revenge, the ghost warrior kills Sub-Zero (well, that is, the future Noob Saibot), depriving the Lin Kuei of their strongest warrior.

After Sub-Zero fails to return from the tournament and word reaches the Lin Kuei clan that Shang Tsung has survived, the mentors send another assassin to achieve their original goal. He became none other than Sub-Zero's younger brother (Younger Brother). The young warrior is on his way to the Outer World. His close friend and clan brother, Smoke, follows him. The assassins from the Earthrealm were close to the goal, but the Mortal Kombat Champion is ahead of them and deals with the sorcerer himself.

(It’s strange that Sub-Zero Jr. didn’t want to take revenge on Scorpio =/ Apparently he didn’t love his brother very much... Next we talk about the younger brother, the post is actually about him.)

Sub-Zero and Smoke, upon returning to the Lin Kuei, learned that the clan members had become automated. They formed cybernetic ninjas to take the place of human ones. The first two were Cyrax (Module LK-4D4) and Sektor (Module LK-9T9). Sub-Zero and Smoke refused to be automated and tried to escape. Sub-Zero managed to escape, and Smoke was captured by the clan and turned into a soulless cybernetic killer.

The ice ninja will not be able to forgive himself for a long time for not helping his friend save himself from becoming a soulless killing machine, but they still had a meeting waiting for them.

Shao Kahn invades Earthrealm and begins to merge it with Outworld. The souls of all people were stolen, but Sub-Zero became one of those whose soul Raiden managed to save. The former Lin Kuei assassin became the chosen warrior of Earth, whose duty was to save his home world from the Emperor. He removed his mask to reveal his break with the Lin Kuei and joined the Earth Defenders in the battle against evil, but Kahn's hit squads were not the only threat to the ice ninja. For betraying the clan, Cyrax, Sektor and Smoke were sent after him, programmed to find and destroy Sub-Zero.

The cyborgs overtake their former brother and Sub-Zero enters into an unequal battle. The brutal battle could have been the last in Sub-Zero's life, but soon Smoke's human consciousness suddenly returned. The Ice Warrior helped Smoke revive his human soul and remember the past. Their friendship turned out to be stronger than installed programs and implanted chips. Sub-Zero, with the help of Smoke, defeated Sektor and Cyrax, and together with the Earth Defenders they put an end to the Emperor's tyranny, but Smoke was kidnapped by warriors from the Outer World and Sub-Zero again lost his only friend.

After the victory of the Earth warriors over Shao Kahn, the Lin Kuei clan was disbanded, but Cyrax and Sektor continued to hunt Sub-Zero. With the emergence of a new threat posed by Shinnok and Quan Chi, the ice warrior once again dons the old suit that his older brother once wore. Together with the Earth Defenders, they defeated the Fallen God and overthrew him back to Unreality, but soon the ice ninja was attacked by Scorpion, convinced that it was Sub-Zero who was responsible for the death of his family and the destruction of the Shirai Ryu clan. Sub-Zero swore that he had nothing to do with this, and the appearance of Quan Chi put everything in its place. Scorpio realized who is responsible for the crimes committed and attacks the sorcerer, which leads to the fall of both into unreality.

(This can be learned from the endings of Scorpion and Sub-Zero in MK4)

The clan's future lay in the hands of Sub-Zero and the cyborg ninja Sektor in their battle for the Dragon Medallion. Sub-Zero defeated Sektor and received the title of Grand Master. The medallion enhanced his freezing abilities and Sub-Zero vowed to reorganize the Lin Kuei clan's forces and fight only in the name of good. Sub-Zero moved the clan's headquarters to the ice of the Arctic, where he discovered an ancient temple frozen into the glaciers. There, the warriors of the new Lin Kuei clan could hone their skills without outside interference. Sub-Zero organized a tournament to recruit the best fighters. The winner was a mysterious girl named Frost, who had freezing powers, like Sub-Zero. Breaking Lin Kuei traditions, the new Grandmaster Sub-Zero himself began training his new fighter. With his help, Frost began to better control and manage her Corey powers. However, Sub-Zero failed to train her in submission, and as her superior fighting abilities grew, so did her arrogance.

Raiden turned to Sub-Zero for help in the fight against the Deadly Alliance in Outworld. In return, God promised to prove to the whole world that the Lin Kuei clan had changed for the better. Frost joined her new mentor to help him and gain more combat experience. By taking part in the real battle, Sub-Zero hoped that Frost would change his views on the future and receive enlightenment. But he didn't realize that Frost had other reasons for following him to Outworld. She was simply waiting for the right moment to reveal her true intentions.

This time luck turned away from the earthlings. Princess Kitana was killed by Quan Chi, and the Earth Defenders died in battle with the Tarkatan horde. Sub-Zero and his student managed to escape from certain death, but trouble does not come alone. Sub-Zero did not know that when Frost joined the ranks of the Lin Kuei, she intended to become a Grandmaster herself. Waiting for the right moment, using her freezing abilities, she temporarily immobilized Sub-Zero and tore the Dragon Medallion from his chest.

Taking possession of the medallion, she felt the power fill her, but due to the lack of strength and endurance required to control the immense capabilities of the medallion, she was consumed by her own ability to freeze.

While living in Outworld, Lin Kuei Grandmaster Sub-Zero discovers the secret of his heritage - the source of his mystical freezing powers. This discovery will help him in the battle against the Dragon King's Tarkatan horde.

"Frost, a warrior from my Lin Kuei clan, betrayed me and stole the Dragon Amulet. Lacking the powers necessary to control the medallion's energy, she became a victim of her own gift of freezing. While searching for the best place to bury her remains in Outworld, I discovered ancient ruins carved into a mountainside.

I learned that the ruins were once a sacred structure for a people who had achieved heights of mastery over the control of cold. After studying this culture in detail, I realized that Frost and I are their descendants.

I placed Frost's body in the sarcophagus and left the catacombs, wearing the armor from my newly acquired inheritance."

Sub-Zero was later attacked in the Living Forest by a squad of Tarkatan warriors. He tried to avoid meeting, but there were too many of them, and they quickly surrounded him. Sub-Zero decided that the last task of his life would be to destroy as many of these barbarians as possible. As soon as Sub-Zero attacked, he felt like his armor was speaking to him. She directed and amplified each blow as it crushed their limbs and crushed their skulls.

He was soon attacked by a guard from the Realm of Order. Hotaru, trying to prove his loyalty to the Dragon King - Onaga - tracked down the ice ninja and tried to kill him, but Sub-Zero managed to escape. Later he gains a new ally. Kenshi was dying after being attacked by the leader of the Red Dragon, Movado. Grandmaster Lin Kuei identified the blind warrior and together they continued their journey. Joining Shujinko and the other warriors, they managed to defeat Onaga and overthrow him back into the Unreal, after which Sub-Zero and the others returned to Earthrealm.

Unaware of the danger, Sub-Zero returned to the Lin Kuei temple, where he was horrified to discover dozens of bodies of killed warriors. It was Frost!!! She did not die then, but only fell into a deep sleep. Awakening in the ice of Outworld, Frost was furious and longed for the death of her teacher. She found her way to the Earthly World and returned to the Lin Kuei temple with the goal of killing only him, but in her delirium she saw Sub-Zero in every figure.

Sub-Zero struck her with cold, freezing her entire body so she could survive her agony. He placed it on the altar in the tomb of the fallen Lin Kuei warriors and surrounded the room with an ice wall.

He will wait until Frost wakes up, and then she will have to answer for all her crimes against the Lin Kuei.

Sub-Zero is horrified to learn from his longtime ally Johnny Cage about the return of Lord Shinnok. He accepts his offer to join the army of Light in the final battle between good and evil in Edenia. Armageddon has begun...

*In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's playthrough mode, Noob and Smoke attacked the Lin Kuei temple in the Arctic as the first step in forming their army of cyber-demons. Taven, who was in the temple, forced Smoke and the cyber-demons to leave him and later defeated Noob, thereby saving the younger Sub-Zero. In gratitude, Sub-Zero reports the Red Dragon and decides to try to lead his brother back into the light. It remains unknown whether he succeeded...

A character named Sub Zero from the Mortal Kombat universe has caught the attention of fans more than once. He was present in both films, and also served as a powerful fighter in all parts of the game line. Many did not even think that at different times they played as two different personalities, whose history can tell a lot of interesting things. The franchise developers took care of this, because this is one of the oldest and most epic heroes.

Two versions

Under the name of the character Sub Zero, the identities of the two brothers were hidden at different times, and the beginning of this story has some differences in the original and updated versions of the story. The real names of the relatives are Kuai Lieng and Bi-Han. They knew how to control the elements of ice, and therefore were raised by the Lin Kuei clan of killers.

According to the first version, the father himself took the children out and gave them to ruthless teachers to raise. The second story says that they were kidnapped from their family when they were young. Since then they have been trained in the art of quick and brutal killing.

The beginning of the story

The first to receive the title “Sub Zero” was his older brother Bi-Han, who had incredible potential for strength. He controlled the cold better than his younger relative, and therefore rightfully took on a great name.

His first mission was to find a map to search for an ancient amulet that opened a portal to the other world. The fighter was hired by a dark sorcerer named Quan Chi. To reinsure himself, he also sent the Japanese fighter Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpio, after him.

A member of the Shirai Ryu clan had to back up the ice ninja in case of failure. They met along the way, and one of the most epic confrontations in the Death Match series ensued - Sub Zero vs. Scorpion. The first character won this duel with a special move that tears out a vertebra from the enemy’s body.

The search dragged on, and the hero again met his sworn enemy in the guise of a ghost. The second fight also brought him victory, but his strength was depleted. Suddenly Quan Chi appeared in front of him and declared that his soul belonged to the Dark Brotherhood and now he must serve Shinnok. The hero refuses and, with the help of Sarina, obtains the desired amulet of transportation. Raiden opened a portal for him and he escaped to Earthrealm.

The Fall of Big Brother

After arriving in his native land, the god of thunder told him that the sorcerer did not lie. Sub Zero's soul already belongs to the dark forces, and only the warrior himself can change his fate.

He decided to return to Lin Kuei headquarters to sort things out. The peace did not last long, because an anonymous wealthy customer sent an invitation to a tournament called Mortal Kombat. This time he was led by Shang Tsung, and the fighter’s main mission was to kill the organizer. Bi-Khan told his brother the story of his adventures in case of death. And this tournament was his last, because there he again met with Scorpio.

Hasashi Hanzo managed to kill the ice fighter for the third time and send him to the underworld. There he was met by Shinnok and Quan Chi, in order to accept him into the kingdom of shadows. The warrior was transformed and even took on a new name - Noob Saibot. Subsequently, he completely and unquestioningly carried out the orders of the ruler, and therefore joined the invasion together with Shao Kahn into the outside world.

New Generation

In Mortal Kombat, Sub Zero was never an empty title. After the death and transformation of Bi-Han, his younger brother took him in and, together with his friend Smoke, went on the first mission, where he was supposed to complete the unfinished business of his relative. He went on the hunt for Shang Tsung, and to do this he had to take part in the Mortal Kombat tournament.

There he was first seen by Scorpio, who remained in the service of the organizer. Hasashi Hanzo thought that the old enemy had returned, and it was necessary to kill him again. Before the fight, the Japanese ninja noticed how the enemy left his hated duelist to live in battle. Scorpio realized that it was another man, but still decided to fight him. Thanks to his experience and skills, Hanzo quickly defeated the Lin Kuei, but did not kill him. The young fighter did not understand this act, but there was no time to think about it.

Clan confrontation

The tournament ended, and the hero went to his headquarters of the assassins. It turns out that changes have occurred in the clan that Sub Zero was not prepared for. "Mortal Kombat" changed not only the warrior, but also the order in his homeland. The heads of the family introduced the use of technology to increase the power of killers.

Sektor and Serax have already successfully undergone the transformation and become half robots. The Ice Ninja managed to escape this harsh fate, but his friend Smoke was captured and turned by force. Problems with the clan were not the only challenge. There was an invasion by Shao Kahn, where it was necessary to help resist earthly forces. The skilled warrior managed to cope with two situations. He proved to the clan that living fighters are better when he defeated Sektor and ruined his program.

Continuation of a story

Subsequently, battalion commander Sub Zero took on a student - a girl fighter named Frost. She betrayed him at the worst possible hour and was killed by the amulet she tried to steal. The Dragon King Onaga did not stop advancing, and Raiden, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi came together to fight him. The God of Thunder released a powerful explosion that destroyed the army, but not the leader himself. At this time, all the fighters were already dead, and the Lin Kuei was lost in the outside world.

There he met and helped the wounded Kenshi to recover. Together they defeated Hotaru, Onaga's chief general, after which they parted ways. Suddenly he was caught by a large group of Tarkatans, and already on the verge of the hero's strength, during the battle his ancestors spoke to him. They helped him summon ghosts, including Scorpio. Through joint efforts, Onaga was defeated forever. The Ice Warrior remained loyal to Earthrealm and often helps the defenders at Raiden's request.

Mortal Kombat has its own value system: here, bad taste is considered good form. Extreme cruelty, an absurd plot and crazy heroes - this is what the entire series rests on.

The authors even overdid it with the characters: one is brighter than the other, and almost all of them are iconic. For this material, we chose the blue ninja Sub-Zero - he stood at the origins of the series, switched from the side of evil to the side of good, always remaining a favorite of the players. Plus, his special moves are some of the best in the series.

OMGadget remembered 25 facts from the history of Sub-Zero.

1. Like other Mortal Kombat characters, Sub-Zero was created by designer John Tobias and programmer Ed Boon of Midway. A crazy story, in comparison with which the plots of all trash films at once pale, is the work of their hands.

2. Sub-Zero's working name was Tundra.

3. Sub-Zero is not the name of an individual character, but a kind of call sign for a ninja from the Lin Kuei clan, who has freezing abilities. The clan is based in China and is known for training a variety of eccentric assassins.

4. The title “Sub-Zero”, as a rule, passes from one warrior to another after the death of its current owner.

5. As part of the Mortal Kombat storyline, we managed to see two Sub-Zeros, and they are brothers. The eldest is called Bi-Han, the youngest is Kuai Lin.

6. If you arrange the events of the series in chronological order, then the first game will be Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero from 1997. In it, Bi-Han distinguished himself by managing to kill the ninja Scorpion twice (a common practice in the Mortal Kombat world) and once the magician Quan Chi (who, of course, was resurrected). After this, Bi-Han enraged the god Shinnok and ran away from him through the portal.

Scorpion

7. Having learned about the brawl that Sub-Zero caused in Mythologies, the sorcerer Shang Tsung invited him to take part in the Mortal Kombat tournament. At the same time, unknown forces suggested that Bi-Han kill Shang Tsung himself. This is where the first Mortal Kombat from 1992 begins.

8. In this tournament, Sub-Zero was unlucky: whoever you think - Scorpio returned from the underworld and killed Bi-Khan. The Ice Warrior fell straight into hell and turned into the dark ninja Noob Saibot. Since then, Bi-Han has been at the beck and call of Shinnok's former enemy.

Noob Saibot

9. The first part of Mortal Kombat was hit by a wave of public criticism due to the high level of violence in the game. For example, in one of his fatalities (that’s what finishing off an enemy is called in the Mortal Kombat world), Sub-Zero tore out the enemy’s head along with the spine, which American mothers didn’t really like.

10. After the events of the first tournament, the title of “Sub-Zero” passes to Bi-Han’s younger brother, Kuai Lin. Together with his friend Smoke, he is trying to finish the job his brother started and still destroy Shang Tsung. Mortal Kombat 2 (1993) is dedicated to this confrontation.

Smoke

11. Bi-Han and Kuai Lin's mother didn't want her children to become ninja assassins. But dad wanted it - it was he who placed his sons in the monastery of the Lin Kuei clan.

12. In the beginning of Mortal Kombat 3 (1995), Sub-Zero and Smoke return to the monastery and see that the clan’s leadership has decided to turn their best warriors into cyborgs. Ninja Sektor and Cyrax decided to become terminators voluntarily, but our heroes did not like this prospect, and they ran away. Smoke was finally caught.

13. In Mortal Kombat 3, Sub-Zero faces off against former allies Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke. The latter manages to straighten his brains out, and together the heroes defeat the other two cyborgs. This is an important moment in the biography of Sub-Zero - he ceased to be a villain and retrained as a positive character. However, this did not make his fatalities any less cruel.

14. In Mortal Kombat 3, all the classic special moves of Sub-Zero were established: freezing, ice shower, puddle and ice double.

15. Also in MK3, a new type of finishing off opponents appeared - animality, during which the heroes turned into animals. Sub-Zero became a polar bear.

16. In the first games, a number of warriors (Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Smoke, Rain, Ermak and others) look the same. Plot-wise, this is explained by the fact that they are all ninja assassins, but in fact, this decision is due to the fact that old slot machines and consoles had little memory. Therefore, the developers took a figurine of one hero and painted it in different colors.

17. In Mortal Kombat 4 (1997), Shinnok and Quan Chi, who had previously played supporting roles, became available as playable characters. But this doesn’t bother Sub-Zero at all - he is again carried away by the showdown with Scorpio.

18. After long battles with his former comrades, Sub-Zero becomes the head of the Lin Kuei clan, officially transfers him to the category of bringers of good and begins a confrontation with the Deadly Alliance, consisting of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. These events are featured in 2002's Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

19. In Deadly Alliance, Sub-Zero has changed: the hero has aged, and his signature scar on his face has turned blue.

20. Since Sub-Zero crippled almost all members of the Lin Kuei, in Deadly Alliance he accepted student Frost into the clan, who also loved to play with ice. Nothing good came of this: the arrogant lady turned out to be not very smart and froze herself. This greatly upset Sub-Zero - instead of going to fight Shang Tsung, he had to look for somewhere to bury his awkward student.

Frost

21. Naturally, Frost came to life in the next part, Mortal Kombat: Deception (2004). She immediately decided that Sub-Zero was to blame for all her failures and went to fight him. This time the teacher froze her himself.

22. The main thing that happened to Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (2006) was his death. However, it overtook all the heroes except Shao Kahn and Raiden: the fact is that the restless fighters became so wild that they caused the end of the world.

23. In the spin-off Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe heroes clashed with characters from classic DC comics in deadly duels. Batman became Sub-Zero's antagonist.

24. In the films, Sub-Zero's story does not follow the game's canon. So, in the first “Mortal Kombat” by Poul Anderson, the hero became Shang Tsung’s bodyguard.

25. Sub-Zero's last appearance was in the new Mortal Kombat in 2011. The game takes place in an alternative timeline, parallel to the events of the first three parts. This game introduces a new form of Sub-Zero - in the form of a cyborg. The game was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Description

There are two Sub-Zeros - Bi-Han and Kuai Liang, the elder and the younger. They are both warriors in blue suits who have the ability to generate and control the power of ice, in other words, they are fluent in cryogenesis, although both of them were born on Earth as ordinary people.

The younger one has a noticeable scar on the right side of his face. IN Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks the scar is shown to have been caused by a cut from a Kung Lao hat. Beginning with Mortal Kombat: Deception, his scar disappears.

The elder Sub-Zero appeared in the first Mortal Kombat And Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, his younger brother replaced him in the rest of the game. Subsequently, the older brother became a representative of Outworld under the name Noob Saibot.

The younger Sub-Zero is very different from his older brother. The gap between the brothers, who were once neutral and almost identical to each other, is now so great that one can talk about the evil and good twin syndrome.

Kuai Liang was portrayed as a young Lin Kuei warrior who lived in the shadow of his older brother, but much has changed since then, and his progress towards humanism has become visible. This change in characteristics not only strengthened him as a person, but also set him apart from his former Lin Kuei clan. Sub-Zero first appeared in Mortal Kombat II(along with his friend Smoke) to complete the task that his older brother failed in the previous tournament - to kill Shang Tsung. As the tournament progresses, Sub-Zero learns of the death of his brother at the hands of Scorpion. The Phantom learned of Sub-Zero's appearance at the second tournament and Quan Chi convinced him that this was the same Sub-Zero who took his life. However, Scorpio saw that during the tournament Sub-Zero spared one of his enemies and did not kill. This is not the same Sub-Zero. However, he and Scorpio fought, but the battle did not reveal a winner, as Scorpio disappeared, realizing that it was Quan Chi who was responsible for the murder of his family.

After the Earthrealm warriors successfully returned to their world, Sub-Zero and Smoke returned to the Lin Kuei. There they learned that the Grandmaster had decided to turn his warriors into cybernetic ninjas, the first of whom were Sektor and Cyrax. Sub-Zero and Smoke refused and decided to flee. Sub-Zero successfully escaped, while his friend Smoke was captured and turned into a cyborg. In anger, the ice warrior tears off his mask and shows that he renounces the Lin Kuei. The clan Grandmaster ordered Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke to find and destroy the traitor Sub-Zero. At this time, Emperor Shao Kahn invaded the Earthly World and began to enslave the souls of people. The God of Thunder Raiden was able to protect the souls of the chosen warriors, including Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero joined the rebellion against Shao Kahn and assisted Raiden and Liu Kahn (along with Earth's other chosen warriors). As the battle progressed, Sub-Zero met his friend Smoke and was able to convince him that he still had human feelings and memories. They teamed up and defeated Sektor and Cyrax. Sub-Zero reprogrammed Cyrax and gave him a new task - to eliminate Emperor Shao Kahn himself. However, he was not defeated by Cyrax, but by the invincible Mortal Kombat champion Liu Kang. Since his victory, the Emperor no longer threatened Earthrealm.

Special moves and finishing moves

Techniques

Unlike Sub-Zero's appearance, his fighting techniques did not change much throughout the series. Starting from the first part, their set was always the same.

  • tackle

Some kind of cutting at a distance. It practically does not take away health, but it knocks the enemy down, giving him some time to regroup.

  • Ice Shot

Also present in all game series. Immobilizes the enemy for a certain time. The block saves, and you can also just bend down. If Sub-Zero shoots at a frozen enemy again, he will turn into an ice statue himself (in Mortal Kombat (2011) If Sub-Zero shoots at a frozen enemy again, it will cause minor damage). If the enemy also chooses Sub-Zero, then when shots are fired towards each other at the same time, both opponents freeze.

  • Ice puddle

Reception appeared in MKII. Sub-Zero shoots ice at the floor, turning a portion of the arena into ice. If the enemy hits him, he loses control of movement.

  • Ice shower

The technique is similar to the ice shot, only it flies vertically instead of horizontally. You cannot escape from it by squatting.

  • Ice trap

The technique is similar to the ice shower, but the shot occurs through the floor (Sub-Zero shoots upward and a column of ice lifts the enemy, freezing him. This technique is only helped by a dash (pressing the left-right button twice) or jumping away.

  • Ice twin

Sub-Zero jumps back, leaving an ice double in his place, which immobilizes the enemy upon contact.

  • Icy aura

The technique is similar to an ice double. Sub-Zero takes a stance, and cold particles begin to swirl around him. Any enemy contact (punch or air strike) freezes him. Only a ranged attack helps (Scorpion's harpoon, Kano's laser, etc.).

  • X-Ray

Sub-Zero will freeze the opponent's liver and squeeze it (causing it to literally crumble), then hit the opponent's head with his forehead, thereby breaking his jaw and part of his skull.

Fatality

  • MKII And MK4- repeated freezing and subsequent breaking into pieces. IN MK:D Sub-Zero freezes the enemy, breaks off his head and breaks the headless corpse into fragments.
  • MK3- freezing, and then tearing in half, and icy breath.
  • MK And MK4- Sub-Zero tore out the enemy's head along with the spine.
  • MK:DA- Sub-Zero tore out the entire skeleton (this finishing move was borrowed from Kano)
  • MK:D- Sub-Zero freezes his legs, breaks them, and then sharply steps on the enemy’s chest, after which the head flies off. All this is accompanied by the enemy’s pleas for mercy.
  • MK vs DCU- Sub-Zero freezes his opponent, in the first case he lifts him up and smashes him on the floor, in the second he smashes him with his foot
  • MK2011 - Have An Ice Day (Have a cool day) - Sub-Zero freezes the opponent's legs to the waist and tears off the upper body. The name of the fatality is a reference to the phrase "Have a nice day" ( have a good day).
  • MK2011 - Spinal Smash (Spine Strike) - Sub-Zero tears out the enemy's spine and skull through his stomach, freezes him and smashes him to pieces with the spine, using the latter as a flail.
  • Mortal Kombat Karnage(flash game) - Sub-Zero raises his hands up. After which a large block of ice falls on the enemy, breaking it.

Cyber Sub-Zero

Render of Cyber Sub-Zero from MK2011

In Mortal Kombat 9, Sub-Zero also appeared among the characters in the form of a cyborg LK-520. In the form of a cyborg, Kuai Liang did not lose his abilities as a cryomancer. He can still freeze an opponent with icy energy, releasing it not from his hands, but from a cannon in his chest. Cyber Sub-Zero can also completely cover himself in ice. If an opponent touches it, it will instantly freeze. Cyber Sub-Zero also has abilities similar to another cyborg - Cyrax. He can release bombs from his chest that freeze the enemy, and he can also teleport, splitting into several parts, and then reassembling himself back in another place in the arena. As in his human form, Kuai Liang can create weapons from ice - huge swords and ice blocks. He no longer looks like Sektor and Cyrax, and has his own personality in appearance.

In the game, the events of Smoke and Sub-Zero's friendship unfolded differently. Raiden manages to come to the aid of Smoke, who was captured by Lin Kuei warriors. Thus, Smoke is saved and he remains human, but the Lin Kuei get to Sub-Zero and take him away. Later, he already appears in the form of a cyborg, carrying out the orders of the clan. Was captured and reprogrammed by Earth's defenders. Sindel was killed, like most of the earth's warriors. Ending in MK2011- Cyber Sub-Zero absorbs Shao Kahn's soul, effectively becoming Cyber Shao Kahn.

Sub Zero- a character in the Mortal Kombat series of games.

Description

There are two Sub-Zeros (from the English sub zero - below zero) - the elder and the younger. They are both blue-suited warriors who have the ability to generate and control the power of ice, although both of them were born on Earth as ordinary people. Junior has a noticeable scar on the right side of his face, however starting with MKD his scar disappears. In MKSM, it is revealed that his scar was caused by a cut from Kung Lao's hat. The older Sub-Zero appeared in MKM Mythologies Sub-Zero and the first Mortal Kombat, with his younger brother replacing him in the rest of the game. Subsequently, the older brother became a representative of Hell (Unreality) under the name Noob Saibot.

The younger Sub-Zero is very different from his older brother. The gap between the brothers, who were once neutral and almost identical to each other, is now so great that one can talk about the evil and good twin syndrome.

Sub Zero in Mortal Kombat 3

Previously, Sub-Zero was portrayed as a young Lin Kuei warrior who lived in the shadow of his older brother, but much has changed since then, and his progress towards humanism has become visible. This change in characteristics not only strengthened him as a person, but also set him apart from his former Lin Kuei clan. Sub-Zero first appeared in MK II (along with his friend Smoke) to complete the task that his older brother failed in the previous tournament - to kill Shang Tsung. As the tournament progresses, Sub-Zero learns of his brother's murder at the hands of Scorpion. The Phantom learned about Sub-Zero's appearance at the second tournament and decided that this was the same Sub-Zero who took his life. However, Scorpio saw that during the tournament Sub-Zero spared one of his rivals and did not kill. This is not the same Sub-Zero. However, he and Scorpio fought. Being more experienced, Scorpio won, but did not kill the young warrior. Sub-Zero had no idea why the ghost spared him. After the Earthrealm warriors successfully returned to their world, Sub-Zero and Smoke returned to the Lin Kuei. There they learned that the Grand Master had decided to turn his warriors into cybernetic ninjas, the first of whom were Sektor and Cyrex. Sub-Zero and Smoke refused and decided to flee. Sub-Zero successfully escaped, while his friend Smoke was captured and turned into a cyborg. In anger, the ice warrior tears off his mask and shows that he renounces the Lin Kuei. The Grand Master of the clan ordered Sektor, Cyrex and Smoke to find and destroy the traitor Sub-Zero. And at this time, Emperor Shao Kahn invaded the Earthly World and began to enslave the souls of people. The God of Thunder Raiden was able to protect the souls of the chosen warriors, including Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero joined the rebellion against Shao Kahn and assisted Raiden and Liu Kang (along with Earth's other chosen warriors). As the battle progressed, Sub-Zero met his friend Smoke and was able to convince him that he still had human feelings and memories. They teamed up and defeated Sektor and Cyrex. Sub-Zero reprogrammed Cyrex and gave him a new task - to eliminate Emperor Shao Kahn himself. However, he was not defeated by Cyrex, but by the invincible Mortal Kombat champion Liu Kang. Since his victory, the Emperor no longer threatened Earthrealm. However, the fallen elder god, Shinnok, the ruler of Non-Reality, returned after centuries of imprisonment, captured the newly freed world of Edenia and declared war on the Elder Gods. And of course he wanted to get his hands on the Earthly Kingdom. Raiden again gathered the best warriors of the Earth, including, of course, Sub-Zero, and announced to them a new danger. The Ice Warrior donned his older brother's uniform as a tribute to him. He also remembered the advice that his brother gave him immediately after his journey into Non-Reality. These tips could be the way to defeat Shinnok. However, what Sub-Zero did not know was that the sorcerer Quan Chi (guilty of the murder of Scorpion's clan and family) had made an agreement with Scorpion - he would fight on the side of Quan Chi and Shinnok in exchange for eternal life, and more importantly, he lied to the ghost, telling him that the Scorpion clan and family were killed not by the elder Sub-Zero, but by the younger one. Scorpio became furious. Sub-Zero and Scorpion met in Goro's cave and again the yellow ninja won, quite confident of his vengeance. However, to his misfortune, Quan Chi appeared, who told Scorpio the truth that he killed his family and clan. He also said that he needed Scorpio only to eliminate Sub-Zero and since he completed his task, he must return to Non-Reality. Scorpion had already begun to move when he suddenly approached Quan Chi and dragged him away with him! Sub-Zero survived. Liu Kang will once again defend his title as Mortal Kombat champion, this time defeating Shinnok himself! After Sub-Zero defeated Sektor in the third tournament, the red cyborg's program deteriorated. He killed his Grand Master Lin Kuei and wished to become one himself. However, he was challenged by Sub-Zero. The Ice Warrior won and became the new Grand Master of the Lin Kuei clan. He also received a dragon medallion, a symbol of clan leadership. This medallion greatly enhanced his freezing abilities. After this, he moved the location of his clan to the Arctic and decided that from now on the Lin Kuei would be a clan of honor and goodness. He decided to hold a small tournament in order to attract new members to his clan. The winner was the girl Frost, who had the same freezing abilities as Sub-Zero. Contrary to the clan's past traditions, the Grand Master made Frost his right hand. However, he did not know the true reason why she joined him. Soon after these events, a new threat appeared in the person of two enemies - the sorcerers Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. They united and decided to revive the invincible army of the dragon king Onaga, the former emperor of the Outer World. To do this, they killed Shao Kahn (his clone) and Liu Kang. Raiden once again united all the warriors of the Earthrealm to fight a new threat. During the battles, Frost and Sub-Zero became separated from the other warriors. Frost betrayed Sub-Zero and stole his medallion. However, she could not cope with the magical power and was self-frozen. The sub took her in his arms and placed her in the temple of the destroyed building. And then he discovered traces of his ancestors - cryomancers, a race of people with freezing abilities. Meanwhile, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Jax, Sonya Blade and Kitana fell dead in battle with the Tarkatan troops of two sorcerers. In the end, only Raiden remained and fought the two sorcerers. He fought well, but fell. Immediately Quan Chi and Shang Tsung began to fight among themselves and the first won. However, Onaga, the dragon king, immediately appeared and came for Quan Chi's amulet. Raiden and Shang Tsung woke up and began to help Quan Chi and the three of them directed their magical powers at Onaga. However, it did not harm him. Raiden released his divine essence and there was a powerful explosion that destroyed everything around... except Onaga. He took the amulet, resurrected his army, as well as the fallen defenders of the Earth, and now they became his servants... Sub-Zero, lost in the Outer World, found the wounded Kenshi, who lost the battle to Mavado. He saved him and the two of them continued their journey. On the way, Hotaru, the leader of Onaga's army, ran into them. Sub-Zero defeated him, but Kenshi sensed that he was still pursuing them. Onaga assigned Hotaru to kill the ice warrior. Kenshi and Sub-Zero parted ways and Sub was left alone. In the dark forest, the Tarkatans attacked him. Sab thought that before he died, he would take the lion's share of the Tarkatans with him. However, he felt that his form was speaking to him, it was the voice of his ancestors! Sub-Zero dealt with them. After this, he, Scorpio, and the other surviving warriors of light, with the help of Shujinko, defeated Onaga. He is a trusted ally of Earth who is willing to provide assistance when needed, especially if Raiden asks for it.

Special moves

Unlike Sub-Zero's appearance, his fighting techniques did not change much throughout the series. Starting from the first part, their set was always the same.

Sub-Zero tackle

  • tackle

Some kind of cutting at a distance. It practically does not take away health, but it knocks the enemy down, giving him some time to regroup.

  • Ice Shot

Also present in all game series. Immobilizes the enemy for a certain time. The block saves, and you can also just bend down. If Sub-Zero shoots at the frozen enemy again, he will turn into an ice statue himself. If the enemy also chooses Sub-Zero, then when shots are fired towards each other at the same time, both opponents freeze.

  • Ice puddle

The move appeared in MK2. Sub-Zero shoots ice at the floor, turning a portion of the arena into ice. If the enemy hits him, he loses control of movement.

  • Ice shower

The technique is similar to the ice shot, only it flies vertically instead of horizontally. You cannot escape from it by squatting.

  • Ice twin

Sub-Zero jumps back, leaving an ice double in its place, which immobilizes the enemy upon contact.

Fatality

  • In MK2 and MK4 - repeated freezing and subsequent breaking into pieces. In MKD, Sub-Zero freezes an enemy, chops off his head and uses it to smash a headless corpse into pieces.
  • In MK3 - freezing, then tearing in half, and icy breath.
  • In MK4, Sub-Zero tore out his opponent's head and spine.
  • In MMKDA, Sub-Zero tore out the entire skeleton (this finishing move was borrowed from Kano)
  • In MKD, Sub-Zero freezes his legs, smashes them, and then suddenly stomps on the enemy's chest, causing the head to fly off. All this is accompanied by the enemy’s pleas for mercy.
  • In MK vs DCU, Sub-Zero freezes his opponent, in the first case he lifts him up and smashes him on the floor, in the second he smashes him with his foot.

Finished in the last game

Fighting on the side of the Forces of Light after the collision of universes, Sub-Zero realized that he was no longer the killer he had been, but also not one of the self-proclaimed defenders of the Earth. Inspired by Batman, Sub-Zero decided to protect the world, but in his own way. He became a lone warrior, the new defender of Gotham City. Sub-Zero left the Lin Kuei clan, who did not like it very much...
