No one will argue that applique work is very important for the development of preschoolers. Children especially like the combination of techniques or the use of unconventional techniques.

Kids are happy to sculpt three-dimensional elements and fill in the missing details. In addition, collecting materials for a group application can be an interesting and useful pastime. For example, to make portraits or still lifes you may need maple leaves or poplar fluff.

Not a single teacher will argue with the fact that any creativity contributes to the development of an aesthetic worldview and the cultivation of artistic taste. In addition, the creation of a three-dimensional picture actively influences the formation of graphic skills.

In addition to developing precise hand movements and fine motor skills of the fingers, appliqué practice also contributes to the development of fantasy, creative thinking and imagination, as well as spatial perception. The teacher must competently and correctly approach all the ideas and fantasies of preschool children. Then such creative tasks can become the first step in revealing the beginning of professional artistic and visual activity.

Now in all schools, in labor lessons and extracurricular activities, such creativity as creating appliques from colored paper is very popular. This is mainly done by children in elementary school; they make various crafts from paper and cardboard, make pictures and three-dimensional toys for the Christmas tree.

Applique is a painstaking work that develops thinking, perseverance and instills in children a love for all kinds of crafts. While working on the appliqué, the child learns to use scissors, glue paper and study geometric shapes.

A 3-year-old child can do the simplest crafts together with his parents. For the little ones, the cut-off appliqué technique is used. It can be created without the help of scissors. The child tears off small pieces of paper, spreads it with glue and sticks it on a thick sheet of cardboard, creating a specific picture.

The older a child gets, the more developed his spatial thinking is and you can teach him to do three-dimensional crafts. To do this, the paper is folded like an accordion, secured with glue, and then a specific object is formed and glued to a sheet of cardboard.

A more complex type of paper craft is quilling, which involves rolling thin strips of paper. To create a picture, rolled rolls are glued to cardboard or connected to each other.

An easy and interesting toilet paper applique that your preschool child will love. To create it you need a template diagram, toilet paper or white paper napkins, glue and a bright sheet of cardboard.

Toilet paper elephant step by step:

  1. On cardboard, draw the body of an elephant using a pencil according to the finished template.
  2. Tear off a small piece of paper, roll it into a ball, spread it with glue and glue it onto the elephant’s body. So fill the entire drawing.
  3. Cut out a trunk, head and legs from white paper. Glue them in place.
  4. Eyes can be drawn, or made from pieces of black paper.

The result is an original three-dimensional picture, which can be supplemented at your discretion - with wood or grass.

Simple cardboard applications for children 3-5 years old

If you have nothing to do on a rainy day, try instilling in your child a love of crafts. Start with the simplest applications, for example, such as a kitten. But be prepared that you will have to cut out all the details and let your baby glue them.

One of the simple cardboard applications is a cut-out postcard. You can make a greeting card for March 8 or New Year. Moms and dads will remember the labor lesson at school, and the kids will be interested in working together with their parents.

The technology for working on a postcard is very simple:

  1. You will need a sheet of cardboard and a set of colored paper.
  2. Bend the cardboard in half.
  3. Having decided on the design, cut out the necessary parts. For example, for a snowman - white or blue circles, for a flower - oval petals.
  4. Parents show, and the child uses glue to apply the blanks to the postcard.

In addition to the usual applications, you can make various funny figures from cardboard

How to keep your child busy: paper applique for 1st grade with templates

When teaching their child before school, parents should teach their child how to handle paper. Children in kindergarten are trying to make simple crafts. Preschoolers work with more complex applications - they are able to make a small picture.

In modern stores you can find self-adhesive appliqués that you can stick on a notebook or decorate a locker at school.

In the 1st grade, children in the labor lesson use the simplest geometric shapes to create applications - square, circle, oval, triangle. If the child does not know how to work with a ruler, you can use stencils. Children cut out figures according to the template and glue them onto cardboard.

First-graders can make easy applications:

  • Animals – dog, kitten, squirrel, zebra and mouse;
  • Birds – owl, swallow, chicken;
  • Fairy tale - bun, mermaid, hut;
  • Nature – sun, cloud, tree.

All these applications will consist of the simplest elements, the head is a circle, the ears are a triangle. Using regular PVA glue, they are attached to the base and you get a simple animal or bird face.

How to make a black and yellow bee:

  1. Cut out 2 circles with a diameter of 4 cm from yellow and black paper.
  2. Cut out two identical heart-shaped wings from red paper, and two slightly smaller wings from yellow paper.
  3. Use black paper to make antennae-stripes.
  4. Place black-yellow-black-yellow circles alternately on blue cardboard.
  5. From the last yellow one, lay out the bee's antennae.
  6. Place larger wings on the sides, then glue smaller wings on them.
  7. Eyes can be drawn or cut out of green paper.
  8. Glue all the parts to the cardboard - the bee is ready!

Developing thinking: paper application for grade 2 with templates

Having learned to make basic crafts from paper and cardboard, and become familiar with the technique of creating simple applications, children begin to study a new creativity - three-dimensional applications. Having mastered the skills, children will be able to make beautiful cards for mothers and grandmothers on March 8, and a craft for dad on February 23 or his birthday.

To create the application “Flowers in a Vase” you will need:

  • Sheet of cardboard;
  • Colored paper – white, yellow, green, blue;
  • Glue stick;
  • Pencil;
  • Scissors.

Having prepared the materials and tools, you can begin needlework.

  1. Make blanks for the applique - two squares of white paper 5x5 cm, a yellow circle with a diameter of 4 cm. For a bouquet of 5 daffodils, you need to cut out 10 squares and 5 circles according to the template.
  2. Using a simple pencil, draw stripes dividing the square in half - horizontally and vertically.
  3. On each side of the square, make cuts along the lines, not reaching the middle by about 0.5 cm. You should get a square divided into 4 quadrangles.
  4. Each square needs to be twisted - place a pencil diagonally across the square and fold the corners onto it.
  5. Make all 10 large squares in a similar manner.
  6. Make 5 yellow circles according to the template - the basis for the center of the flower. Screw the folded circle onto the handle, remove it and secure it with glue.
  7. To make a flower, you need to fold two blanks of petals together and insert a yellow core. If everything is done correctly, you will get a beautiful 8-petal daffodil.
  8. Cut thin strips from green paper - the future leaves of the flower. We bend it a little lengthwise and give it a shape.
  9. You need to cut out a vase using a pre-prepared template. It can be made blue. You can decorate the vase with any ornament cut from paper of a lighter color.
  10. First glue the vase onto an A4 cardboard sheet so that its bottom coincides with the bottom of the paper. The application is placed vertically.
  11. Then stick the daffodil leaves in a chaotic order, after which you can begin to form the bouquet. Glue the flowers so that they are in the center of the entire application.

All parts must be glued well so that after drying they hold firmly. The finished picture can be decorated with an edging of small figures or beads.

Volumetric application for 3rd grade with templates

Third grade students can make more complex and time-consuming work using the quilling technique or interesting three-dimensional crafts. Teachers often wonder what kind of paper work to create for children to make it interesting for them.

In 3rd grade, girls are still playing with dolls, so it will be interesting for them to make three-dimensional furniture for a dollhouse. Boys can make an airplane, a racing car. On the website Country of Masters you can find a sample of three-dimensional paper crafts for every taste - templates for origami, quilling patterns. You can print out the diagrams and templates and do them with your children in class or give them homework.

If you run out of ideas, you can always ask the kids what they would like to do in class.

Children's applications using the quilling technique are very popular among schoolchildren. This is not only a unique gift, but also a beautiful decor.

How to make paper appliques for children (video)

Paper applications are a great way to keep children occupied for a certain amount of time. This type of creativity can be practiced by the youngest children - from 3 years old and primary school students. Armed with imagination and a craft kit, children can create incredible pictures and impress their families with their achievements.

Every mother and father tries to choose an exciting activity for their child that will not only occupy him for a while, but will also have a beneficial effect on the all-round development of the baby, will force the child to improve creative thinking, think, fantasize, and learn to concentrate.

Applications made from colored paper are an excellent option for your child’s useful pastime. Older children can engage in this creative activity on their own; children as young as one year old will create their first works together with their parents.

The role of applications in child development

Paper applique involves the step-by-step creation of a picture by gluing elements of different shapes and colors onto a cardboard or paper base. After looking at various photos of paper appliqués for children, you will understand what this type of activity is and what kind of finished work you can get at the end of the process.

The paper applique technology is quite simple. The child himself, or with the help of his parents, nanny, or teacher, must come up with what kind of picture he would like to depict, prepare the tools necessary for the creative process, make patterns of elements, one by one cut out small details from paper sheets that will be needed to recreate the intended image and sequentially glue them onto the chosen base.

So what is the benefit of such an activity?

Application creation process:

  • develops perseverance;
  • improves fine motor skills;
  • allows you to remember and distinguish colors and shapes;
  • teaches independence;
  • instills neatness;
  • teaches patience;
  • forms creative and imaginative thinking, etc.

The role of applications in the development of a child is undoubtedly great. They contribute to the multifaceted and diverse development of the child.

Here are some simple paper applique templates that may be useful for first lessons and introducing kids to the concept of appliqué.

Examples of applications

We will try to make a presentation of some of the easiest paper applications with which you can begin the process of learning this business.

Ice cream

To create such an application you need to prepare:

  • cardboard or paper base;
  • glue;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • colored paper of various shades.

To begin with, on colored pieces of paper you need to sketch the main elements of the future picture: a separate cone and separate ice cream balls. Afterwards, using scissors, you need to cut out these parts. At the next stage, you need to glue the small elements in a strict sequence: the horn is attached to the base first, then, one by one, the popsicle balls.

After completing the steps, the resulting picture can be decorated with additional details: a cherry, chocolate chips (which also need to be cut out of paper).

Using such a simple algorithm of actions, you can make applications of different types: a plate of fruit, a fish, a bunny, and a house.

Volume applique

This version is a little more complicated, but the result is worth it. Let's look at how to make an unusually beautiful three-dimensional paper flower. To create it, you will need the materials indicated above, the only clarification is that the colored paper should be as thin as possible.

From the base you need to cut out the shape of a flower, this could be, for example, a rose bud or a chamomile inflorescence. Afterwards, you need to cut a lot of small pieces from paper of different colors and crumple them with your fingers.

Volumetric winter paper appliqués look very beautiful and believable and will be a wonderful gift for grandparents for the New Year holidays. On a cardboard base, you can depict a Christmas tree decorated with multi-colored balls, and using crumpled pieces of white paper, you can recreate a snowfall or install a snowman.

There are a huge number of options for applications created from colored paper, so the child will not get bored with this activity; every day he will discover something new and interesting, while improving imaginative and creative thinking, quick wits, perseverance, discipline and intelligence.

Photos of paper applications

Creating three-dimensional paper appliqués is easy and very interesting. All you need is a simple pencil, an eraser, colored and white paper, glue, scissors. Of course, you must have free time and a good mood. Paper is a very rich material and can be used in crafts in a variety of ways. If you have children, they will also be interested in participating, besides, any kind of creativity develops perseverance, imagination and fine motor skills.

Paper applique as art

Everyone knows the simplest technique, when flowers, houses, butterflies, etc., cut out of colored paper, are glued onto cardboard. It all started with this. Then they came up with a way to make such pictures three-dimensional. And here lies great potential for design ideas, because you can create original greeting cards and decorative elements. There are also real masters whose voluminous paper applications turn into masterpieces.

In addition to multi-layering and silhouette cutting, trimming and quilling techniques are used. In the first case, small squares are cut out of paper, which are twisted into small tubes using a rod or match. They are glued vertically to the base. Quilling uses rolled strips of colored paper. In this way you can create a huge variety of different compositions that will look very light and delicate. Do-it-yourself voluminous paper applique is made, of course, using origami.

It is quite possible to master these techniques. If something doesn’t work out right away, don’t give up. And perhaps we should start with the simplest thing.

We make a volumetric applique together with the child

Creating three-dimensional paper applications for children is not only interesting, but also useful. This perfectly develops fine motor skills, imagination, perseverance, attention, and spatial thinking. In addition, kids really love to do things with adults.

In order to maintain attention, a child under six years old needs to introduce game elements, for example, asking riddles as work progresses. They can be about objects and images that will be depicted in the final composition.

So, first you need to draw a template on paper. In this case it will be a tree with leaves and a bird.

In progress

Any three-dimensional paper applique begins with a sketch. On a brown sheet of paper, draw a tree with thick branches. As a crown, as in this example, you can simply use an uneven circle. Separately, draw small leaves on green sheets. The bird should contrast with the rest of the details. Here, lilac color was chosen for this purpose. Let the child cut out all the details of the future composition himself.

To make the leaves symmetrical, they need to be cut from a sheet folded in half. Make several pairs at once, nesting them one inside the other.

The crown is glued onto the background first. For the next step you need to prepare small parcels of brown paper. They are glued to the tree from the back side and are a link between it and the crown.

A voluminous paper applique welcomes the use of origami, which means that the bird does not need to be cut out, but folded in a special way. Or build her a tail from a sheet collected with an accordion. In this case, the wing is glued so that it also rises slightly above the rest of the composition.

What else can you think of?

Children can be taught more complex and interesting techniques. Any fluffy objects are created by simply gluing torn pieces of paper onto a template. The sheets are also crumpled, compressed, flattened or folded before becoming part of the picture. These ways of creating elements of a masterpiece are always very exciting for a child.

Volumetric paper applications for children can be made using trimming. In this example, the entire composition is made using this method.

We take paper of yellow, blue, green, brown and white. Now you need to cut it into small squares - one square centimeter will do. To create the bundles themselves, you will need a rod or toothpick. Although any object with a narrow, sharp end will do. It is placed in the center of the square, which is crushed and folded around it. In this case, the glue is applied to the desired area of the sketch. Do not pull out the rod until the package is firmly in place.

A voluminous paper applique created with your own hands is a very painstaking work, but it relaxes the nervous system well and teaches perseverance. To make the process easier, it is better to first prepare all the necessary bundles, and then start gluing. By the way, you can only fill in the outline of the sketch. Don’t worry if some of the bundles turned out uneven - they will look very harmonious in the finished picture.

Volumetric paper applique. Flowers

Typically, such crafts are relevant on the eve of the Eighth of March. However, for creativity it is not at all necessary to look for some reason.

First make a pot. The top can be glued to a specially placed roll of paper, as was done in the tree appliqué, or you can simply leave the edge on top and turn it down.

The flowers will be multi-layered. You don’t have to make them with five petals, as shown in the picture. If you want more, this is the way to go. The middle can be cut out of polystyrene foam and painted, or simply glue a small crumpled piece of sheet onto this place.

It is appropriate to additionally decorate voluminous paper appliqués with ribbons, fabric and other improvised means that are glued or sewn to the composition. In this case, such an element is the tape. You can simply thread it through specially cut holes. If your imagination goes further, decorate the applique with beads, beads or anything else.

Flower arrangement made of corrugated paper

This is a great way to give your craft some airiness. All we need is to cut out petals of the required size from corrugated paper. Let their size vary - from the largest on the outer edge to the smallest in the middle. We make a small cut on each petal from the bottom edge. Folding the resulting edges overlapping. Now you can bend the petal either outward or inward and glue it to the base.

Absolutely any flower can be made using this method, be it a rose, peony or chamomile.

We resort to quilling

The most interesting and eye-catching volumetric paper applications are made thanks to this technology. If this is your first time using quilling, please be patient as it will not be easy. The main thing here is training.

Double-sided colored paper should be cut into strips 2 to 9 millimeters wide. The narrowest ones will be used for smaller and finer details of the composition. You will also need sewing needles with balls, tweezers, patterns, manicure scissors, cork or any board with a similar soft surface. The blanks are made like this: a strip of paper is wound with a serpentine around a needle stuck into the board. Patterns will help create an even shape. For the petals you will need several needles so that the distances between the paper twists inside them are even. This is where graph paper comes in handy. The lowest needle will help make a sharp end; yarn overs should first wrap around the middle needle, then the top one. Simply attach the finished part to the place intended for it, greased with glue.

Applications made from colored paper have long been a traditional creative activity for children.

It allows you to develop skills in handling scissors, improve the work of children's hands and make the baby more careful. Every child will be able to make appliqués from colored paper with their own hands if they are given a feasible task.

So, the most affordable options for colored paper applique for children 4-5 years old can be:

Volumetric applications made of colored paper

Ladybugs. Cut out two red circles and a black semi-oval. Black dots are placed on the circles, after which one circle is glued exactly above the black semi-oval, and the second is bent in half and glued to the first circle. We complement the bug with toy eyes and antennae.

Polar bear. Using a template, we cut out a round body, a head with ears, a muzzle and paws of a bear from white paper.

Let's complete the necessary details. We cover a sheet of white cardboard with blue watercolor, creating a background.

Against this background, we assemble our bear and complement it with toy eyes.

Application "Polar Bear"

Multilayer applications made of colored paper

As an applique made of colored paper for children 5-6 years old, you can use more complex, multi-layered paintings containing small details. Preschoolers are quite capable of creating characters such as:

Fish. We cut out a triangular fragment from a disposable plate, cover the remaining part with “scales” - semi-oval pieces of colored paper of different colors, which need to be applied, slightly overlapping each other. We attach the tail and fins with a stapler, and glue on the eye. Ready!

Here is another fabulous fish with colored scales.

Dragonfly. From thin paper we cut out the body of a dragonfly with a head and eight multi-colored wings.

Glue it all to a white sheet, complement the image with mustaches and toy eyes.

Application "Dragonfly"

Application made of colored paper and disposable plate

Chicks in the nest. Glue half of a disposable paper plate to a sheet of cardboard. We cut out three oval figures of chicks from blue paper.

We cover the figures with lumps of crumpled thin blue paper, and the nest with decorative shavings.

All that remains is to glue the eyes and beaks of the chicks - and the applique is ready!

Craft “Chicks in the nest”

In the “autumn tree” applique, a disposable plate serves as the background.

Application "autumn tree"

Applications made of colored paper using a complex pattern

Girl in the rain. This application is based on working with complex templates, according to which you need to cut out an umbrella, boots, head, dress, hair and hands of a girl.

What needs to be cut out for the “Girl in the Rain” craft

We assemble the picture on a sheet of blue cardboard, gluing the parts one by one.

Application “Girl in the rain”

Combined applique made of colored paper

Chicken with an umbrella. This application also involves working with templates, but if it is difficult for children to cope with such a task, teachers or parents can prepare templates in advance.

Materials for crafts “Chicken”

We decorate the umbrella with pieces of translucent colored paper, which will make the image more interesting.

All that remains is to collect the picture.

Application “Chicken with an umbrella”

Volumetric applique made from pieces of colored paper

Flower. Cut out the outlines of a flower from a disposable plate or sheet of cardboard.

Cut small pieces of colored paper and roll them into lumps. One by one we glue the lumps onto the glue.

Carefully fill the entire space of the flower.

Application made of colored paper “Flower”

Another craft option is “sunflower”. Draw the outline of a sunflower on a piece of paper. Cut pieces of yellow and green paper.

Glue a black circle in the center. We begin to decorate the craft with pieces of paper. Before gluing the paper, crumple it a little - this will give the craft additional volume.

Sunflower applique made of colored paper.

Sunflower applique made of colored paper

Rainbow. It is made in much the same way as a flower: the child crumples colored paper and carefully places it in rows, observing the sequence of colors in the rainbow.

Application "Rainbow"

Using the 3D appliqué technique from colored paper, an autumn tree turns out to be very beautiful.

You can make a heart applique from pieces of red and pink paper. We use a heart made of cardboard as the basis.

We crumple the pieces a little and glue them to the base. The craft will look interesting if you alternate red and pink lumps.

Excellent appliques are obtained using the cutting technique. Small pieces of paper are glued tightly to one another using a thin stick.

This is the kind of airplane that can be folded from pieces of paper using the cutting technique.

Instead of glue, small pieces of paper can be fixed to a plasticine base.

Flat applications from pieces of paper

The herringbone applique from colored paper is made using a very interesting technique. Pieces of thin tissue paper are glued onto triangular bases. In this case, the pieces can seal the edges of the Christmas trees and stick to one another. Only after this the triangular base is glued onto the pre-painted background.

Christmas tree applique made of colored paper

Straw man. The application is made using the mosaic technique. Glue the hat and head of the stuffed animal cut out according to the template to the sheet, and draw the contours of the body.

Materials for the “Straw Scarecrow” craft

The child’s task is to fill the body with pieces of colored paper, gluing them next to each other. We lay out the stuffed animal’s hair and beard using the same yellow pieces.

Sunset. We lay out sand and purple sunset with pieces of yellow color.

A small palm tree will complement the landscape.

Application "Sea" made of paper

Applique with quilling elements “heart”

Applications with elements of quilling or paper rolling look very impressive. In order to make an applique we will need colored paper, a pencil, scissors and glue.

Cutting paper curls

Glue the paper curls onto a pre-prepared base - a paper heart.

Decorate the curls with rolled green paper. The curls begin to resemble graceful roses framed by petals. We create an interesting applique using the paper rolling technique.

Application “Vase with flowers”

You can make a very impressive “Summer Meadow” applique postcard from colored corrugated paper and wire. The technique for making it is very unusual. We wrap corrugated paper several times around an easily bendable rod or wire. Fix the end of the paper with glue.

Squeeze the paper onto the wire. Cut off the excess wire and tuck the ends. We should get colored thick sausages.

"Sausages" made of corrugated paper

From these “sausages” we lay out an applique on paper.

You can make a very beautiful wall panel with yellow flowers from colored corrugated paper.

Applique on a paper plate “bed with carrots”

Very beautiful applications are obtained if they are based on a background painted in watercolors.

Application and drawing “spring”

Using different techniques and combining ideas in your own way, you can create unique paintings that will become a real manifestation of children's talent.
