When is Angel Nina Day celebrated? Nina - meaning of the name. Nina's birthday in May

This is the date when the memory of Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina, who is often called the enlightener of Georgia, is honored.

The meaning and characteristics of the name Nina

This name means "royal" or "great". Its origin is associated with the name Nin, which was borne by the founder of the Assyrian kingdom. In addition, in mythology such deities are known as Ninazu, the ruler of the underworld, and Ningal, the mother of the sun god.

The character of the girl, named Nina, corresponds to the meaning of her name from a very early age: the child grows up stubborn and proud, completely unwilling to listen to the warnings and parting words of her elders.

However, despite her royalty and pride, Nina always takes public opinion about her own person very close to her heart.

She may be deeply worried when she hears unflattering gossip about herself among her peers, or malicious rumors spread in the yard or at school.

Having matured, Nina becomes a wonderful woman - a responsible employee at work and a caring housewife.

But sometimes, in an effort to make her family ideal, she can offend loved ones, so it is important for her to learn, in any situation, to find compromises and accept her family for who they really are.

Patron saints 😇 Nina according to church calendars

The Church Orthodox calendar - month book contains the names of saints who were glorified for their ascetic life.

Every Christian can find out in memory of which ascetic his birthday was consecrated. In order to find answers to the important questions of one’s own life and to understand what destiny is destined for oneself, it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the details of the life and ascetic deeds of “your” saint.

† Nina Equal to the Apostles, enlightener of Georgia

Saint Nina was born at the end of the second century in Cappadocia into a family of deeply religious people who were relatives of Saint George. Her uncle was the Patriarch of Jerusalem, and her father, who bore the name Zabulon, said goodbye to his family, took monasticism and decided to become a hermit, after which his traces were lost. The saint's mother also took holy orders with the blessing of the patriarch.

The upbringing of the girl was entrusted to the pious Nianfora, who taught Nina and told her about the lives of the saints and the Mother of God. One day, young Nina was visited by a vision in which the Mother of God asked her to go to Iveria (Georgia) and find the tunic of the Savior, which was hidden in the tomb of St. Sidonia.

Evidence of this event was the cross in the girl’s hands, which she did not part with until her death. The cross was made from a vine grown in Iberia. Soon she really had to flee to Iveria along with other Christian girls, fleeing the persecution of the cruel pagan emperor Diocletian.

In Iberia, the girl settled in a poor hut, which was provided to her by the family of the royal gardener. The poor and destitute, the sick and suffering came to this shelter. The saint helped everyone and became famous throughout Iberia for her miraculous healings. For more than thirty years, the enlightener of Iberia, Saint Nina, labored in mercy and healing.

The main work of the saint was the tireless preaching of Christian teaching. Many people believed her and were baptized. Thanks to the prayers of the saint, the first Christian church was built in Georgia, after which all of Iveria adopted Christianity. A few years later, Nina continued her preaching of Christianity in Kakheti; the queen of Kakheti and thousands of her subjects accepted Christianity. Here, in Kakheti, the saint died, her relics are in the local convent.

† Nina Kuznetsova, martyr

The Russian North has long been the spiritual center of Rus', famous for its monasteries and holy ascetics. Among them were not only priests and monks, but also ordinary people who devoted their lives to spiritual achievement. In 1887, in the small town of Lalsk, where there were eight churches per thousand inhabitants, a girl, Nina Kuznetsova, was born. From childhood, she preferred solitude, prayer and church services to games and entertainment.

Nina was the only daughter, her loving parents helped her in everything: even before she came of age, her home was a cell built by her father in a barn with his own hands and filled with spiritual books. Here the growing girl prayed, received strangers and holy fools, and helped the poor and sick.

Through reading, prayer and works of mercy, the saint lived to be almost forty-five years old; in 1932, her parents were arrested. This event forever broke the health of the ascetic: she was paralyzed and until the end of her life she could not even cross herself, while remaining a zealous Christian and a support for other believers.

The ascetic gave her parents’ large house to the poor and disadvantaged. The wives and children of enemies of the people arrested on church charges and the monks of destroyed monasteries found shelter there. The blessed one fed them and served everyone, although she herself had difficulty moving. She gave to those who came all the food that they brought into the house, and she herself observed strict fasting all her life, prayed a lot and slept little. The blessed one knew all the church services by heart, helped the priests and was indispensable in the church despite her severe infirmities.

Thanks to her intercession and prayers, the church in Lalsk worked until 1937. During this terrible year, the temple was closed, and the blessed one was arrested and sentenced to eight years of correctional labor despite her severe disability. In mid-1938, Nina Kuznetsova died in a camp near Arkhangelsk.

It has royal origins; in ancient times, female royals were called this name, which is why it is translated from the Assyrian name as “mistress.” In all countries this name is pronounced Nina, except Georgia, where it is still common under the name Nino. And in Finland it is pronounced Niina.

Diminutive and affectionate form of the name: Ninechka, Nyusya, Nin, Ninulka, Ninochka, Ninusya, Ninulechka, Ninusha, Nyusechka.

Nina celebrates Angel Day three times a year:

  • January 27.

She will only go on a date with a man whom she likes very much, with whom she falls head over heels in love. On the first and second dates she will not agree to sex, preferring to stretch out the candy-bouquet period in order to understand whether the suitor is worthy of her. Nina, having fallen in love with her man, may not notice that he has stopped loving her and is hanging out on the side. Nina perceives a separation initiated by a man as a bolt from the blue. After which Nina can plunge into depression for a long time.

Family

If Nina gets married at an early age, then there is a high chance that this marriage will soon fall apart due to Nina’s excessive demands on her husband. Only in adulthood does Nina become more tolerant of her husband’s shortcomings, more often gives in to him and begins to appreciate family life more. Nina is a very good housewife, cooks excellently, loves to make her home cozy, raises her children in a strict manner, and monitors their school success. Nina will not forgive her betrayal of her husband, without hesitation, she will divorce him and raise her children alone.

The inclusion of the name Nina in the calendar was not accidental. Nina's name day is celebrated according to the church calendar in January, on the 27th. A girl with that name was born in a small Georgian town. At the age of 12, Nina ended up in Jerusalem with her parents.

A little history

There her parents took up worship, and an old woman, wise with life experience, was engaged in the upbringing and education of the girl.

Showing obedience and diligence in learning, the little girl soon learned to read the Holy Texts of Christianity well.

Several years have passed. One day, the old woman told the girl that the light of Christianity had not yet been shed on Georgia, and also about the legend about one warrior who, thanks to a lot, received a tunic and took it to the country of Averia (Georgia). This really touched the girl. The young saint began to pray to the Mother of God to help Georgia turn to God and see the tunic of the Lord.

The Mother of God heeded Nina’s pleas and appeared to her in a dream. The Most Pure Virgin gave the girl a cross made of grapevine and said that it would protect her on her journey. The Mother of God sent the saint to Georgia, which did not know Christianity, to preach the Gospel.

Waking up, Nina found a cross on her bed. Taking it, she turned to the Patriarch of Jerusalem. After listening to the girl’s story, he gave his blessing and sent her to apostolic ministry.

Miracles

Celebrating Nina's name day, people talk about the saint, who performed miraculous deeds during her journey to the country of Averia. The couple who sheltered her had no children, and thanks to the prayer of young Nina, the woman was healed of infertility. King Merian, who wanted to destroy all Christianity, was blinded by lightning and healed after promising to glorify Christ, which he informed Nina about when he returned to the city.

Death of a Saint

The Equal-to-the-Apostles saint baptized people living in the mountains. Soon Nina found out about her imminent death and notified the king about it. Merian came to say goodbye to her. Having bequeathed to bury her in the place of her tent, she died.

When trying to move her remains, it was not possible to even move the coffin from its place. After some time, a temple was built here. Masses of people flocked to Nina’s tomb and were certainly healed of their besetting illnesses.

When people name a child, they hope that the child will take a piece of his character and destiny. And the saint himself will be a guardian angel for the baby and will protect him from troubles and adversity throughout his life.

The name for the baby can be chosen on the day corresponding to the birth, dedicated to the memory of the saint. This can also be done on the 8th day and on the 40th. During baptism, the name of the saint will be given to the child.
