Hygiene and care for a newborn princess. Basics of caring for a newborn girl in the first month of life: hygiene procedures, skin care and daily routine When is it time to accustom a girl to independent intimate hygiene

For new mothers, caring for a child may seem difficult, but it is a matter of habit. Every day it will turn out better and better. If a little princess has appeared in the family, then there are several nuances that must be taken into account when carrying out daily hygiene procedures. How to ensure proper care for a newborn girl?

What to buy before giving birth

When it was announced during an ultrasound that the birth of a girl is expected, you need to prepare a dowry for the baby in advance and purchase everything necessary for care and hygiene procedures. The children's room must have:

  • Crib;
  • baby changing table;
  • a separate closet or chest of drawers for children's things.

In addition to the basic furniture, you need to prepare clothes for the baby, a supply of diapers and a baby first aid kit. Clothes and medications should be kept in a designated drawer of the chest of drawers to make access to them as convenient as possible. Ideally, you can purchase a chest of drawers with a changing table. You should put a first aid kit and diapers in the top drawer, and leave the rest for your daughter’s clothes. This will make it as convenient as possible to change the child’s clothes, perform navel treatment, etc.

Clothes purchased for a newborn should be washed in hypoallergenic powder and carefully ironed. You should also prepare soft towels for the baby. You will need one large towel for bathing and one small towel for washing. Towels must be washed and ironed before use.

You need to carefully prepare for the arrival of a newborn girl in your home. You will have to buy a lot of things - from hygiene products to furniture

In addition to basic children's medications (antipyretics, anti-colic medications, gels for gums, etc.), the first aid kit should also contain auxiliary products for hygiene procedures:

  • cotton swabs and disks;
  • cotton wool;
  • high-quality baby cream;
  • Vaseline (it is better to choose the modern version in liquid form);
  • brilliant green (“zelenka”);
  • manganese permanganate (“potassium permanganate”);
  • baby wipes;
  • liquid baby soap;
  • hydrogen peroxide;
  • two thermometers (special mercury for water, electronic or infrared for the body);
  • two pipettes with a round end;
  • gas outlet tube No. 15 for infants;
  • several orthodontic pacifiers;
  • herbs for bathing newborns (chamomile, string).

Everything that is listed on the list must be purchased in advance, so that when you arrive from the maternity hospital with your baby, you do not have to worry about something being missing for proper child care.

What to pay attention to in the first days

It is necessary to see if your daughter has a white or light beige coating on her lips and genitals. If there is, don't be afraid. This is smegma (vernix) and is absolutely safe. But in the case when there is a lot of it, this can provoke the proliferation of harmful microorganisms, leading to an inflammatory process.

If the plaque is almost invisible and there is little of it, then no special care is needed. It will absorb into the skin itself. If there is a lot of smegma, you should very carefully remove it with a cotton pad dipped in clean boiled water. The structure of the plaque is quite dense. It is unlikely that you will be able to remove it the first time, so the procedure can be repeated for several days in a row.

Thanks to frequent on-demand feeding, the children's gastrointestinal tract will be more quickly populated with beneficial bacteria that promote proper digestion. This is the main prevention of colic

Also, in the first days of life, you need to pay great attention to feeding the child - the main element of care, without which the child simply will not survive. You need to put the baby to the breast as often as possible so that the mother establishes stable lactation and the newborn girl gets used to the new way of feeding.

Features of hygiene of newborn girls

Unlike boys, who can be washed as they please, girls have a greater likelihood of genitourinary infections caused by bacteria and microorganisms that multiply in the genital area. That is why when washing you need to follow several rules:

  • You need to wash your baby every time you change a diaper.
  • Washing should occur in the direction from the genitals to the anus. This is very important, since with this method the chances of introducing an infection into the genitourinary system are significantly reduced.
  • The use of baby wet wipes is only permissible for removing feces from the perineal area. Then you still need to wash the baby.
  • You only need to wash the girl under running water; you cannot do this in a basin. When washing in a basin or bath, there is a risk of feces and bacteria getting into the vagina. This also threatens inflammation.
  • You shouldn’t overuse soap; it’s better to do without it. An excessive desire for ideal cleanliness of the perineum can lead to partial or complete fusion of the labia minora, which occurs due to a violation of the integrity of the mucous membranes. This will need to be corrected surgically.
  • The towel used for washing and bathing should be separate for the baby, washed and ironed.
  • Do not wipe the inside of the labia with anything (wet wipes, cotton pads, towels). This also leads to infection and disruption of the integrity of the mucous membranes.

If a newborn girl suddenly has mucous or bloody discharge from the vagina, this is normal. The discharge will disappear when the baby's hormonal levels return to normal. Most often it lasts a few days and does not require treatment.

But if purulent discharge with a pungent odor is observed and the genitals have acquired an inflamed appearance, then this phenomenon requires immediate medical intervention. It should also be taken into account that in infancy girls cannot have any discharge other than hormonal ones, which were discussed above. In case of such phenomena of any kind, consultation with a doctor is required.

Bathing

For bathing, you need to purchase a separate soft washcloth or sponge and bath accessories in advance. You cannot use mom’s or dad’s towel, especially one that has already been used by adults. Bathing the baby should occur daily, except in cases where it is not recommended by pediatricians, for example, with various dermatitis. After bathing, it is good to give your baby a light massage with baby oil or cream.

You should use various foams, soaps, shampoos and other hygiene products no more than once a week. Herbal decoctions can be used every day

Care for nails, ears, nose, chest and umbilical wound

Nails

Little babies are often born with long nails. It is not possible to cut them in the maternity hospital, so this procedure must be carried out immediately upon arrival home. A child's nails should always be trimmed, otherwise he may scratch his face and body with them. For this procedure, it is better to purchase special nail scissors with sharp blades and rounded ends in advance. Before trimming, scissors and fingers must be treated with hydrogen peroxide.

It is better not to cut your nails too short - there is a chance of injuring your finger. Therefore, it is better for the little princess to do manicures and pedicures more often.

Navel

Caring for the umbilical wound consists of two fundamental points:

  • Constant access of air to the wound.
  • Daily treatment with peroxide and brilliant green.

Air access is ensured by loose clothing or loose swaddling, as well as the use of special diapers for newborns with a recess for the navel.

The wound is treated according to the following scheme:

  1. You need to wash your hands, put the girl on the changing table, undress, and remove the diaper.
  2. First, drop a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide from a clean pipette into the baby’s navel.
  3. Then from another pipette you need to drop a drop of brilliant green onto the wound.
  4. Next, you need to wait until the brilliant green dries and you can dress the baby.
  5. You should not touch the wound with your fingers or cotton swabs - you can get an infection.

The procedure is repeated every day until the wound is completely healed. Healing usually takes 2-2.5 weeks.

Modern pediatricians do not advise bathing a child until the umbilical wound has completely healed. But if there is a strong desire, then the bathing water should be boiled, cooled to the desired temperature (34-36°), only then the baby should be immersed in it

Ears

A girl's ears should be cleaned as needed. This is when earwax has moved out of the ear canal and into the concha. Only remove what is visible. You should not reach far into your ear when using cotton swabs. Sulfur is not dirt, but protection of the hearing organs from dust and infections.

Newborns' ears are cleaned using cotton swabs rather than swabs. Chopsticks can damage your ear. If the baby accidentally jerks, it will go in too deep. For each ear you need to twist a separate flagellum. If water gets into your ears while swimming, this is not a reason to panic. You just need to blot it with a towel and, if necessary, use a cotton swab, which will perfectly absorb water.

If diaper rash or crusts have formed behind the baby's ears, they are lubricated with baby cream or oil. With this care, diaper rash will quickly go away, and the crusts will be easy to remove

Nose

Nasal care consists of observing and removing snot and crusts. The child must be able to breathe freely. To prevent snot from drying out, it is necessary to maintain optimal humidity in the room - 50-70%. You can also soften the crusts with boiled vegetable oil. It is applied to cotton wool and carefully, with screwing movements, wiped from the inside of the nostrils. In the same way, you can remove the accumulation of nozzles.

When caring for newborns, it is best not to use aspirators and various nasal sprays. According to experts, this leads to the formation of adenoids and disruption of the integrity of the mucous membranes. There is no need to be zealous and overly concerned about the cleanliness of the nasal passages. Everything must be done strictly as needed

Mammary gland

About a week after birth, a girl may experience breast engorgement. This is not dangerous and is explained by the hormonal “crisis” of newborns. You don't need to do anything special. Everything will go away on its own. In the case when the baby’s chest turns red and the enlargement of the glands is pronounced, it is worth consulting with your local pediatrician.

Some mothers in such situations begin to massage their breasts or try to squeeze out the contents. This is wrong and dangerous.

Caring for a baby is difficult and unusual only at the very beginning. Over time, everything will become simple and easy. The joys of motherhood are worth a little work!

While expecting a child, many mothers try to learn as much as possible about pregnancy and childbirth, believing that the most difficult thing is giving life to a new person. In movies, everything ends with a wedding, but in life, everything just begins with a wedding. It’s the same with motherhood: with the birth of a child, the fun begins. A young mother needs to accomplish so much in a day! And here it is important to properly distribute your time and energy. We will tell you about how to properly organize care for a newborn girl, what to pay attention to, in which cases to seek qualified help, and in which cases not to panic and just wait for time. This information will be useful not only to mothers of first-borns, but also to those who have their first baby in the family.

Intimate hygiene

Due to their anatomical features, the genital organs of girls are more often susceptible to infections and are characterized by increased sensitivity to external irritants. The mucous membrane of the genital organs of a newborn is very delicate, thin and vulnerable. It is easily injured, and even a small injury is a gateway for bacteria and harmful microorganisms. Therefore, hygienic care for a newborn girl must be carried out carefully, regularly and according to certain rules.

In the first days

In the first time after birth, a girl's labia is visible. light gray or cream coating– remnants of smegma, original lubricant. If there is not a lot of plaque, it will gradually be absorbed into the skin. However, if the plaque is abundant, it is recommended to remove it, since after a day or two the fats it contains oxidize, causing the proliferation of microorganisms and, ultimately, inflammation. This plaque is quite dense, so it needs to be removed delicately, in several steps. It is best to use cotton swabs and warm boiled water for this. The plaque will be removed in pellets and will completely disappear in 2-3 days.

How to properly wash a newborn baby girl

The girl needs to be washed every time she changes her diaper, and simple wiping with wet wipes is unacceptable here. You can remove feces with napkins, after which you should definitely rinse the perineum under running water. Mom, of course, needs to wash her hands with soap before doing this. In the first months of life, it is advisable to rinse a girl’s genitals in the direction of the anus, so that feces particles do not enter the vagina and cause inflammation. For the same reasons, it is impossible to wash the girl in the basin after defecation. Older girls are washed as follows: first, they soap and rinse the anal area (from the bottom up, towards the tailbone; a stream of water is directed into the palm), then they wash their hands again and wash the external genitalia without soap (from the perineum to the pubis, without touching the anus ).

Caring for a newborn girl after washing is performed in the following sequence: first, blot the genital area dry with a clean towel, then the labia and the skin around them, the inguinal folds, and only then the anus area. At this age, the skin and mucous membranes are dry and easily wounded, so they must be moisturized with baby cream or sterilized vegetable oil. Never wipe the inside of the labia, as this can disrupt the vaginal microflora and lead to genitourinary infections.

Breast care

A few days after birth, a girl may experience swelling and redness of the mammary glands, sometimes accompanied by the release of colostrum. This is also a hormonal phenomenon. Do not massage your baby’s breasts or try to squeeze out the contents of the mammary glands; avoid rubbing this area on clothing – and in 2-3 weeks everything will go away on its own. If expressed too brightly,

Bathing

  • You can bathe a newborn girl as soon as the umbilical wound dries. Up to six months, baths should be daily, then you can bathe the baby every other day, and when she reaches a year, even less often, replacing bath procedures with showers.
  • You should carefully wash all the folds and spaces between your fingers and toes.
  • It is recommended to use soap (not toilet soap, but a special one for children, with a minimum amount of additives!) or baby foam no more than 1-2 times a week, and do not add it to water, but apply it to the skin and wash it off with a shower. Soapy water dries out the vaginal mucosa. There is an opinion that until the moment the child begins to crawl on the floor (i.e., until the moment when he can really get dirty) or until the moment when the baby begins to eat complementary foods (i.e., smearing porridge on his face with his hands or puree) - there is no point in washing it with soap, because the child does not get dirty with anything and is constantly either in the arms of his parents or in a clean crib. And once again disturbing his skin with soap products is not only pointless, but also harmful - the protective layer of the skin is washed off. But, firstly, daily bathing in clean water is still necessary, and secondly, this does not exclude washing the child with soap after he pooped.
  • Adding various herbal infusions to the bath is at your discretion. However, it must be borne in mind that almost all of them dry out the already dry skin of babies. At the end of winter and spring in cities, an increased amount of chlorine is added to the central water supply, which greatly dries out the skin of children during daily bathing. In this case, it is recommended to add special softeners to the bathing water, for example, calendula bathing agent (Weleda has this). And after bathing, lubricate the baby’s skin with baby oil.
  • A newborn girl should use her own, purely individual, bathing set: towel, washcloth and mitten. By the way, you can wash the baby with a piece of gauze instead of a washcloth, since it can be washed and boiled.
  • After bathing, the newborn girl is blotted dry with a clean towel or warm sheet, and the skin folds, if necessary, are treated with baby hygienic oil.

Ear care

Contrary to popular belief, sulfur is not dirt, but a means of protecting the body. It has bactericidal properties and protects the ear canal from drying out, dust, wind and water. Therefore, do not be zealous in removing it. The maximum that is allowed is to carefully remove with a cotton wool the wax that is in the visible zone, that is, it has come out of the ear canal into the auricle. Each ear has a separate flagellum. Do not use cotton swabs under any circumstances, do not penetrate the swab into the ear canal - this can lead to the pushing of sulfur deeper and the formation of cerumen plugs.

During bathing, the ears are carefully washed with water. If water gets into them, simply blot your ears with a towel. The main thing is to make sure that there are no drafts in the room.

The skin behind the ears requires special attention. Rinse it during bathing and lubricate it with baby oil, especially if there are crusts. Decoctions of skin-soothing herbs and creams with zinc oxide help with diaper rash.

Nasal care

It is necessary to carefully ensure that snot and crusts do not accumulate in the girl’s nose and that she has the opportunity to breathe fully. Therefore, you need to clean your baby’s nose, if it is filled with crusts, every day. The crusts are pre-softened using sterile vegetable oil. To clean the nose, it is preferable not to use store-bought cotton swabs: those with a limiter will not be able to penetrate to the required depth, and without limiters you risk damaging the baby’s nasal mucosa. Prepare small flagella (“turundas”) from cotton pads and, carefully inserting them into the nostrils, clean out the contents of the nose with gentle rotational movements. It is better not to use children's nasal aspirators, because... with frequent use, you can damage the nasal mucosa and disrupt its microflora. In addition, there is an opinion among experts that the recently noted earlier appearance of adenoids in children, the proliferation of the nasal mucosa, is also a consequence of too zealous care of the nasal mucosa by parents (frequent use of aspirators, nasal sprays, etc.) .

Nail care

Newborns' nails are very soft, so it is more convenient to start cutting them after the first month, when they harden a little. To do this, it is better to use special children's tweezers or children's nail scissors with rounded ends, pre-treated with alcohol or cologne. The corners of the nails on the hands are rounded, on the toes they are left straight to immediately give them the correct shape, which helps in the future to avoid such an unpleasant problem as ingrown nails. Usually, it is enough for children to cut their nails once every 7-10 days, as they grow. You can do this at any time convenient for you, when the baby is most calm, for example, during sleep or feeding.

Children's palms also need care. Due to the fact that newborns often hold them clenched into fists, dirt accumulates on them and diaper rash occurs. This can be avoided by regularly washing and drying your hands.

What mother doesn't dream of a little princess daughter? Wonderful outfits, attention from others, flowers, decorations, pink wallpaper in the room - these are cute attributes of a wonderful girl’s life. When a baby is just born, she needs to be given a lot of attention: fed, washed, walked, put to bed. Above all, caring for a newborn girl is different in many ways from caring for a boy. If the family already has a boy, the mother will need to readjust a little when taking care of the newborn doll.

What is needed to care for a newborn?

Preparing for the birth of a child is a process that requires care and thoughtfulness. There are now a lot of different devices for newborns in stores. Some really make caring for your baby easier, while some are unnecessary. Parents decide for themselves what to buy first and what they can stock up on as needed.

Caring for a newborn girl from the first minutes includes not only body hygiene, but also the cleanliness of household items and order in the room. Regular cleaning of the room, absence of dust - prevention of respiratory and allergic diseases of the child.

Daily care items:

  • diapers;
  • cotton wool;
  • oil and powders;
  • towel;
  • boiled water or herbal decoctions.

Your baby will need rattles to help him learn to focus his eyes and identify the source of sound.

Taking care of things. Things should be washed separately from adult items with special baby powder. After drying, the clothes are ironed on the outside and inside for additional disinfection. The girl's clothes are stored in a separate chest of drawers or cabinet. This is important because adult clothes may contain dirt, and other detergents are used when washing.

How to care for a newborn girl?

For a child, a new environment is stressful. Features of caring for a newborn girl are not limited to intimate hygiene; the room should be kept constantly clean, and the baby should be fed and bathed properly. Following a few simple rules will ensure your child quickly adapts to his new life.

Proper care of a newborn girl:

  • Hygienic procedures in the form of washing are carried out with warm clean water every time the diaper is changed.
  • Walks are held daily, the duration is determined by age and weather conditions.
  • Bathing at the same time. It is best to bathe your baby before bed before meals; baths with string, chamomile, and lavender have a good effect.
  • Feeding on demand. It is difficult to accustom a baby to a routine, so feeding on demand is optimal. So, over time, a frequency will develop that is individual, suitable for mother and baby.
  • All clothes and diapers are washed with baby powder and ironed on both sides.
  • Timely visits to the pediatrician and specialists are the key to preventing possible problems.

Caring for intimate areas. In girls, the genitals are more exposed to external irritants and infections. The genital mucosa is thin and vulnerable; slight damage risks becoming an excellent environment for microbes. Caring for a newborn girl has its own characteristics, in particular due to its anatomical structure.

Caring for a newborn girl in the first days has its own characteristics. A small coating remains on the labia - remnants of the original lubricant. If there is a lot of plaque, it is better to remove it, as it causes the proliferation of harmful bacteria. It is better to remove with warm boiled water, using cotton wool; it is recommended to do this carefully, preferably in several stages. The plaque disappears in 2–3 days.

Caring for the intimate parts of a newborn girl photo:

How to care for a newborn girl's pussy? Intimate care for newborn girls is carried out especially carefully; wiping with napkins is not enough; girls should be washed every time they change the diaper. You can remove excess feces with a napkin, and you need to wash it under running warm water.

Genital hygiene:

  1. The genitals should be rinsed under the stream towards the butt.
  2. Residues of feces should not get into the vagina, as they can cause irritation.
  3. After water procedures, you need to blot the labia with a towel, then the anus.

The genitals need hygiene; they should be lubricated with baby cream or special oil. Baby girls should take care of their intimate area from birth.

Caring for the newborn's vagina. In newborn girls, mucous and bloody discharge may appear from the vagina, this occurs under the influence of hormones. This phenomenon can be observed on days 4-7, goes away on its own and does not require treatment, it is called vulvovaginitis.

If the discharge is unusual for a long time and has an unpleasant odor, then it is time to immediately consult a doctor.

Mammary gland. There may also be a slight enlargement of the mammary glands and redness of the skin around the nipple. White liquid may be released from the nipples themselves; you should not press on them. If you properly care for your newborn girl, the problem will go away by the end of the first month.

Rash. Also, due to hormonal effects, babies may develop a hormonal rash on the face. The rash also goes away on its own, like all previous phenomena associated with transmitted maternal hormones.

Caring for a newborn girl in the first month

Bathing a newborn. When the umbilical wound dries, you can immediately bathe the baby. It is recommended to bathe the baby daily for up to six months, then once every two days. Daily care should be performed at the same time.

Care for folds and body. The folds and spaces between the fingers and toes should be washed as thoroughly as possible. For procedures, it is good to use special baby shampoo or soap without additives. It is recommended to use cosmetics no more than 1-2 times a week. And in general, until the child crawls or begins to receive complementary foods and gets dirty, it is better to use soap and shampoos less often. A towel or washcloth, a piece of gauze is good for the little ones, must be individual.

Various herbs can be used at the discretion of the mother; they tend to dry out the skin, so you shouldn’t get carried away with them either. For disinfection, at first you can add an infusion of chamomile or string to the water.

Caring for a newborn girl should be completed by lightly blotting the towel or diaper. Next, lubricate the folds with cream or oil, and treat the umbilical wound with green paint. The child is dressed in clean, ironed clothes. It is necessary to iron it, since high temperature destroys bacteria that could appear on the surface of the linen.

Water for bathing and washing. Care for infants from 0 to 3 months is carried out in boiled water. Chamomile or string are used to further disinfect the liquid. The optimal water temperature is 37 degrees.

At the very beginning, bathing a newborn will take 5–7 minutes, then the duration of the procedures can be increased, turning the process into a game. The cool temperature of the water will become part of the hardening process and will also promote relaxation, which will make the girl's sleep sounder.

Proper ear care. There is no need to be too zealous in the process of removing wax from the ears. It will be enough to remove only the wax that has come out into the auricle. For this purpose, cotton wool flagella or sticks with limiters are used.

A separate flagellum is used for each ear; it is not advisable to penetrate very deeply into the ear, as this helps push wax inside and form plugs.

When washing the girl, the ears can be rinsed with water; if liquid gets inside, you should carefully pat them dry with a towel. The room should be draft-free so as not to cause a cold in the baby.

You should also take care of the skin behind the ears using Vaseline or baby cream. Make sure she doesn't sweat.

Nasal cavity care. Easy breathing is the key to normal well-being. Caring for newborn girls up to 1 month should be accompanied by thorough cleaning of the nose from crusts. It is best to clean your nose with a swab made of sterile cotton wool and soaked in oil. The nose is cleaned with rotational movements. It is enough to carry out this procedure once a day, but if breathing problems are detected, then more often.

If crusts have accumulated in the nose, they must first be softened with butter.

Frequent use of aspirators can lead to damage to the nasal mucosa and disruption of microflora, so they should be used only when it is difficult to cope with the usual method. It is important for parents to monitor the air in the room so that it is not dry.

Nail care. Baby fingernails have a thin structure. It is advisable to trim them once a week. You need to cut your nails with special scissors with rounded nails; before the procedure, you need to treat the tool with water and soap or alcohol. It is best if the baby has her own individual scissors.

To prevent the baby from scratching, it is advisable to round the corners of the nails on the hands, and on the contrary, leave them straight, so the nails will take the correct shape.

Most often, the baby sleeps during a walk, and his anxiety may be caused by colic or uncomfortable clothes.

What to pay attention to

A routine examination by a gynecologist is scheduled at 1 month. There are a number of cases when the girl will still need to be shown to a doctor and appropriate care for the girl’s baby should be prescribed.

Swelling and redness of the labia, atypical discharge may indicate inflammation, which must be properly treated.

Crying when urinating, external changes are also serious reasons to see a doctor. The doctor must prevent the appearance of synechiae - this is an unpleasant phenomenon that consists of fusion of the labia minora. If not treated correctly, lumps and swelling of the mammary glands can develop into mastitis. To exclude it, at the first sign, it is advisable to seek help.

Caring for a newborn girl video:

Of course, caring for a girl in the first days of a newborn's life may seem hectic, but very soon, it becomes easier for the mother to care for her newborn girl. Following a well-established routine and planning a vacation will help the little princess easily adapt to her new surroundings.

It's no secret that boys and girls are physiologically different, which means caring for them from the first days of life has its own characteristics. In our article you will learn how to properly care for a newborn girl - in the maternity hospital and after discharge.

How to care for a newborn girl

From the first minutes of life, the baby needs care and attention. Her needs are primarily for food and her mother's presence. However, proper care of a newborn girl includes many other daily responsibilities, the most important of which is maintaining the child’s hygiene.

Caring for a newborn girl in the first days of life

In modern maternity hospitals, the mother spends time with the baby in the same room, which means she learns the basics of caring for the baby from the first days of his life. Before being discharged home, the young mother must be counseled and told about how to care for a newborn girl after the maternity hospital. The first postulate is feeding on demand, not according to a schedule. The baby will set her own routine, and the mother will have to adapt to it.

An important role in caring for a newborn girl in the first month is played by the environment in which she finds herself at home.

When the mother and girl arrive from the maternity hospital, the room should be ready: a crib with a firm mattress, a changing table or board, a first aid kit and a baby bath, washed diapers and clothes. Try to wet clean the room more often, ventilate it and keep the temperature within 20-22͒ C.

Wash items with baby soap or a special hypoallergenic powder, and be sure to iron them. Clothes and diapers should not rub the baby's sensitive skin and, most importantly, the umbilical area.

When caring for a newborn girl up to a month old, the cleanliness of all objects and the hygiene of the child are extremely important. Carry out all hygiene measures with the baby carefully and methodically, walk with the girl more often, if the temperature outside allows, breastfeed her on demand and do not be afraid to carry her in your arms - your daughter will not become spoiled from this. Create a calm and harmonious environment in the house, and soon the little girl will establish her own daily routine, which you can adjust a little.

Features of caring for a newborn girl

Every morning the baby should begin with hygiene procedures. It is better to carry out all manipulations before feeding to avoid regurgitation of milk.

  • Carefully inspect all the folds of your baby for cracks and diaper rash: inguinal and cervical folds, the area under the arms and behind the ears, the folds of the arms and legs. If necessary, lubricate the folds with baby oil or a special diaper rash cream. If a girl's skin is dry, it can be moisturized with baby milk.
  • Wipe the baby's face with a cotton pad soaked in boiled water.
  • Wash your eyes in the same way, directing the cotton pad from the outside of the eye to the inside. For each eye - its own cotton pad.
  • Check the girl’s nose for crusts and, if necessary, remove them with a cotton swab dipped in baby oil.
  • The ears and mouth do not need special treatment.
  • Be sure to wash the girl under running water.
  • Try to change diapers before feeding, but at least once every three hours, to avoid diaper rash.
  • Check your newborn's umbilical cord daily until it is completely healed. If there are crusts in the wound, drop a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide there and blot with a cotton swab, removing the crusts.
  • Trim your fingernails and toenails as they grow, using special children's scissors with blunt ends. On the hands, the nails are trimmed, rounding the ends, and on the feet, straight and horizontal.
  • A newborn baby should be bathed every evening in a baby bath until the navel heals. The water temperature should be 36 - 37 degrees. After bathing, gently pat your skin dry with a soft towel without rubbing, and check your navel and folds again.

If you notice swelling of the mammary glands and genitals, as well as slight bleeding from the vagina, then do not be alarmed. In the first days after birth, this is possible, since the effect of sex hormones that entered the child’s body in the womb has not yet ceased. These symptoms will go away soon!

Caring for the intimate parts of a newborn girl

Caring for the genitals of a newborn girl requires special attention. It is necessary to wash the baby every time you change a diaper with running tap water. Wet wipes are recommended to be used only when there is no access to water, for example, on the road or in a clinic.

When caring for the intimate parts of a newborn girl, you can use special baby soap for washing. But you should not use it more than 1 - 2 times a day. Water will perfectly wash away all natural secretions.

We are talking primarily about the girl’s genitals. After discharge, the mother must carefully examine them and, if anything is in doubt, contact a pediatric gynecologist.

It should be remembered that in the first two weeks of life, maternal hormones still influence the body of a newborn girl, which can lead to swelling of the mammary glands, swelling of the labia and the appearance of mucus and even bloody discharge from the vagina. All these phenomena are physiological in nature and should not cause much concern.

How to wash properly?

This question, perhaps, worries absolutely all women who have had a daughter. In principle, there is nothing complicated here if you know the correct algorithm. The girl should be washed with plain water using movements from front to back, i.e. from the vagina to the anus.

This is the main rule that young mothers who have given birth to a girl must follow. This is due to the fact that if this rule is not followed, fecal particles and harmful microorganisms can enter the vagina and cause serious inflammatory diseases.

Hygiene for newborn girls does not involve frequent use of soap. It is enough to wash the girl with soap once a day, for example, during her evening bath. The most common baby soap is used for this.

The rest of the time, regular water will be enough. This is due to the fact that the genital mucosa of a newborn girl is very delicate, and frequent use of soap can lead to irritation. By the way, you shouldn’t add foam or some similar product to the water when swimming. The best way is to lather at the end of bathing and quickly rinse off the foam.

After washing the girl, you should wipe it as carefully as possible, simply blotting the genitals with a dry and clean towel. Of course, you shouldn't rub them. A towel intended for a little girl should always be clean, and other family members should not use it. First, you need to blot your labia with a towel, then the area around them, and then the anus area.

In order to prevent skin irritation, which often occurs in newborn babies, it is necessary to use baby powder or special oil after water procedures.
